I just ordered a brand new 65 Deluxe Reissue. I will be anxiously awaiting its delivery.
This is the current version. I'm hoping that it will sound great without the need for any immediate mods.
I don't have a problem installing a Weber speaker or something else, if needed.
My main use will be for home use and I would like to get some breakup without maxing out the volume. I would like to have it start breaking up by 5 on the volume, max.
Any ideas on what I should expect? I don't mind playing fairly loud at home because I can crank up the amp without disturbing neighbors, etc. I like to play softly at night though and hope this will perform great at low volume as well.
Feedback appreciated.
I also noticed there is not much posting going on in this thread. What happened?

Congratulations...a great choice!
No mods necessary IMHO just check the bias as I've heard some come cold from the factory. Get a Weber Bias Rite so that you can check and adjust the bias yourself. TungSol 6V6's are good sounding tubes and work well in the 19-20 ma range.
The only problem I had with mine and others reported having the same issue is an infant mortality rate on the Ruby rectifier tube. I replaced mine with a JJ rectifier tube and have had no issues since.
The amp will start to break up around 5 but it will be loud. Don't be afraid to try plugging into Input 2 which lowers the volume by 3db I believe.
Let us know how you like it.

if you have single coils I don't think you're going to break up much at 5, so plan on going up in volume or using humbuckers.

I installed a Dr. Z Brake Lite attenuator I had laying around. Biased the Tung Sol 6V6's at 19ma and have been playing with pre-amp tubes...breakup at resonable home levels & tone for days!!!

I'm back in the fold... again. Gave up on the Blues DeVille (good amp, but damned loud, and too damned heavy) so it got returned and I went home with a slightly used FSR Deluxe Reverb (only had a couple of weeks playing on it... so it was like new but a little cheaper). This is the wine red model with the upgraded speaker (Jensen P12Q). While it sounds pretty good as it is, I've got a set of Tung Sol 6V6's here (from my last time with a DRRI) so all I need is a Weber Bias Rite and some replacement preamp tubes (any suggestions?)

Piano_Bill......I've got the same FSR Deluxe Reverb w/Tung Sol 6V6's biased at 19 ma.
V1 & V2 : RCA 7025's
V3 & v6 : Mullard CV4034 (12AT7)
V4 : Tung Sol 12AX7
V5 : EH 12AX7
V1 & V2 were pretty happy with Tung Sol's before I scored the 7025's...all in all a happy combo!!!

Thanks for the info, Mikiedreb... how do you like yours? I know the Jensen P12Q makes for a more vintage sound (at least to my ears) but I'd like to know how well the Tung Sol 6V6s sound, especially when the amp is rebiased. I'm not expecting to score some NOS RCA 7025s anytime soon, so it's good to hear that the TS 12AX7s work well.

Hey Piano_Bill....I'm very happy with the DRRI. It actually sounded pretty darn good before I started tinkering with it. The preamp tubes seemed to make more sonic difference than the power tubes to my ear. Both the Tung Sols and the RCA's opened up the sound...more depth....a bit more gain. I also pulled the speaker and buzzed it with a filament transformer for 24 hrs.

So I was reluctantly running my DRRI at 4 ohms over the last few weeks using an 8 ohm Emi CRex internally, and a Emi 8 ohm spkr in a closed back 1x12 Fender cab underneath the DRRI. At my last gig I noticed that when I plugged in the ext cab my sound coming out of the DRRI actually reduced a bit in volume and became more trebly with reduced low end. I'm done with that.
Just ordered a 16 ohm CRex (love that spkr in the DRRI!), and I'm going to pair it with a 16 ohm Celestion V30 in the closed back bottom cab.
I know it's "OK" to run the DRRI at 4 ohms without hurting the amp (at least so I've read), but it just didn't sound right to me, and I'm anxious to get back to running it at 8 ohms.

I still like my wine red DRRI... maybe someday I'll retube it (I don't know why I'm waiting, I've already got some new Tung-Sols around here still in their little boxes. But I was wondering... how many wine red DRRI's are there out there in FDP-land? What do those of you who own one think of it?
I know it was supposed to be a short-run FSR amp, but from what I heard, there was two runs of them, and the second run didn't sell out at the factory (my local guitar shop just got in two more of them...).

I recently played at a benefit gig for the passing of one of my musician buddies. He sat in with many bands over the years, so there were tons of musicians there. Long story short, my DRRI was set up right next to an original 65. My DRRI, loaded with a Weber 12F150, sounded much fuller than the original. So much so, that people were asking what I did to my DRRI.
Who knows what was going on with the 65, but it couldn't keep up with my DRRI.

No telling, spacedawg. When they were brand new the specs on the components were rather loose. there's no telling just how bad they became over the 45 or so years since it was originally built.
One big advantage of the new ones over the old ones is that the tolerances are tighter today, which results in more consistent amplifiers. And there's the fact that new components are all within spec...

Still lovin' mine. I like the way it breaks up earlier because of the speaker. I prefer tweed amps anyways so this DRRI fits perfectly.

...Cannabis Rex, Fritz-mod, Tung Sol power and pre-amps, bias....I'm happier than a pig in poopie. Gas for Supersonic 22 has ended.
Being able to jumper both channels together now that they are in phase has given the DRRI new depth and fullness.

Just checking in for no reason other than to say my Fritz-modded DRRI (Fritz mod, beefed up power, 1 X 15 cab) is still in my possession, which is saying something. I can't beat this amp for overall goodness and versatility.

..and wouldn't you know it, I now have a question...
I just played my DRRI in a new location and am getting a lot of radio noise when reverb is applied. I checked the outlet and it is grounded. This is a high rise apartment... Suggestions?

The two do it yourself fixes I can think of would be replacing the 12AT7 tube and/or the RCA cables to the tank. After that, I would be out of tricks, but having spares of those items wouldn't be a loss anyway if it didn't work.

The reverb circuit is stock except for audio taper pot. I think 6CS's suggestion is a good one.
