Now I understand there's a Vibroking club, a C-T club, a pro-junior club, and so forth...but I couldn't find a Hot Rod DELUXE club in any threads (even the archives, but I could be wrong). So here we go! Fellow HRD owners stand up! Tell about your favorite settings, speaker, tubes, mods, etc.

Hmm. Well I don't know if I qualify becuase I have a HRDeville 2x12,..but essentially they are the same amp.

I've had this puppy for around 5 years. It's pretty much stock except I put casters on it (HEAVY!) and I run a volume box in the pre-amp. But just today I ordered the NOS GE 12AX7As for pre and the JAN Philips 6L6WGBs for power. I can't wait to hear 'em!

I use this amp almost every weekend. It's been very reliable, rugged (I've spilled more beer on it...) but it keeps on coming. I plan on upgrading the speakers very soon,..that is if I can decide which ones to go with. I find that in the right room, with the right volume, on the right night, this amp sweetly sings.

yah, devilles count because they use the exact PCB bored layout, but a similar cucuitry though, and a different cabinet (which gives a diffent sound too). But over all, i guess the Deluxe and Devilles should be included. Even your manual is meant for the Deville/Hot Rod Deluxe.

Mine is a HRDx all stock. sometimes I insert my VOl BOX in the loop and sometimes not.

Standard settings are volume 2.5, Bass 4, treble 7, middle 6 , presence 6, reverb 2.5, drive 4, master 2.5

with the vol box, the volume goes to 4 and master goes to 12.

I play an Am.Std.Strat and use a TS9 with low gain and a dunlop wah sometimes

HRDx all stock except for NOS GE preamp tubes. Will probably replace speaker sometime in the future.
Bass and Treb. around 5, mid around 8, bright switch on, pres. 4. Volume, just depends...

Use a Godin LG SP-90 and a Tubescreamer for O.D.
Sometimes will use the drive channels.

Don't use the HRDx quite as much since I got my PJ. Still it is a force to be reccond with.

HRDvlle (4x10). I love this amp! I made a volume box too, but I haven't been using it lately. I got a Digitech GNX 3 for Christmas and that allows me to adjust the output volume so I can turn up the amp. I like all three channels on this amp. I don't play out so weight isn't an issue for me. I just have a blast playing for me!

Wow. We must be the black sheep of the Fender family. Some "clubs" have literally thousands of members. We currently have 6. ; )

HRDx right here

Svetlana 6L6GCs biased at 68mV
Amperex 12AU7 phase inverter
RCA 12AT7 drive preamp
GE 12AX7 clean preamp
Weber Blue Dog Ceramic
Disconnected presence control, for looser bass response
Audio taper 100K master pot

Volume: 4-5
Drive: 6-8
treble: 11
bass: 5
mid: 9
Master: 3-4
Reverb: 2-3

Cleans and drive sound absolutely wonderful, no need for overdrive pedals anymore.

There used to be a HRD Club here...

My HR Deluxe is basically stock, except for new Groove Tube 6L6s and a Mesa 12AT7 in V2. I tried Electro-Harmonix 12AX7s, but found out that I preferred the stock GTs. This amp sounds great as a head into a 4-12 cab when you need a lot of oomph. Alas, now I'm bandless, so the cab is gone; don't need it in my basement. Now, I'm beginning to think that a speaker change is in the near future.

There used to be a club called "Hot Rod Drivers" or something like that.. and then there was another. I guess this is #3, heh.

Master Pot Mod
Reverb Mod
Speaker change (V30, soon to be AlNiCo BlueDog)
Svetlanas 6L6GCs
Mullard 12AT7 in V3
two other Philips NOS JAN 12AX7s

T F is right there was one that had at least 100 or more members. Was lost when the server crashed or something.

My Deluxe has some old GE 12at7s in v1&2 and 12au7 in v3. I use a TS-7 and the Vol Box. Sometime a courus pedle.

Strat Deluxe w/Tex Specals PUs.

Love this amp!

Anybody put on the tilt back legs on there's?.

I'm in. HR Deluxe, all stock. I play an American Deluxe Strat and a Custom Shop NOS '63 Tele. Favorite settings are:

Drive 4
Treble 9
Bass 6
Middle 9
Master 2
Reverb 4
Presence 6

I'm looking at adding an extension cabinet to widen the sound for gigs. Anyone have any recommendations? Cheers!

My HRD has no mods, yet. I'm planning on replacing ALL the cheap plastic jacks to Switchcraft #12A's. I haven't figured out on the speaker and tubes yet. I have found many combinations in threads on FDP and in reivews on Harmony-Central. I'm looking for a VERY clean channel with the distortion smoothed out.

If you wanna try good settings, try this link. Although it's for the blues junior, try the settings with the HR Deluxe.

has anyone else tried the reverb mod, what's it like?

Jan 31st, 2003 03:09 PM   Edit   Profile

HRD fan here. Run a couple of Teles, into a compressor and a delay. All stock but a couple of AT7's in the V1 and V2. Very happy with the amp. I now use the Drive channel half of the time.

Ahhh...can't believe I missed it. All this time I lodging (sp?) "Amp Mods and repairs" and "the Chop shop". Well, I guess this is the Third Incarnation of the "Hot Rod Deluxe Club"! How many were in the first HR club before the server crashed?
