Not new but I admit I wasn't bonding with my Dot Deluxe. Just sounded too dark.
I recently got a SF Princeton Reverb and with the new amp and a complete setup on the Dot it just sounds so much better.
It has really come alive and I have been enjoying it much more.

My old MIK red Dot made a reappearance at the local music store.
The former manager/guitar tech bought it and did a nice fret level and polish as well as tweaking the pickups. The red has dulled down a bit so it is like a Gibson cherry red.
Too bad I don't need a second Dot.

I'm playing a Dot Deluxe w/Parsons Street A5 PUs from StuMac.
I bought it as interum piece until I replace the ES-137 that like a dummy I sold. I still want the 137 but might just keep the Dot too. PUs and a set up made it a wonderful playing/sounding guitar. Nice flamey top but I'm not fond of gold hardware.

I located my previous '04 MIK Dot in a local music store. I had traded it toward another another guitar nearly five years earlier. It had ended up being bought by the manager of a local guitar store who is a skilled guitar repairman and undergone fret leveling and crowining.
I heard it played by others and it sounded and played great. Last week I compared it to its replacement--a '09 MIC Dot, which sounds good but has the bigger neck profile of the newer models.
After comparing them head to head I preferred the sound and neck profile of the '04 and the tweaked fretwork makes it a fantastic player.
So I made a trade and I've got my old Dot back.

For some reason... and i am not sure on the dates and countries....
But the Epis made in the mid 2000s were made better.
Atleast better than the early Epis and the Epis made in the late 2000s.
Once Epi opened their own plant, I think the quality got better.

Picked up an Epi dot 335 off CL yesterday, $150.00 with Epi hard case. A red 1997 with two minnor issues that took 20 min.to fix (dirty input jack and a loose pot) Pups measure 8.1 and 8.5. I've had two other 335 copies, but this one is hands down a winner. I should've taken the pups out when I changed the strings, I just assumed they were stock, but man they sound so good im wondering now. I gotta shout I CAN FIND NO FAULT WITH THIS 97 RED EPI.

Sometimes the stock pickups can sound pretty good if they are set up right.
My 2004 sounded so-so to me the first time around but after it belonged to a repairman friend of mine for a few years I heard a big improvement in the pickup tone, so I bought it back.
I was certain that he had dropped in a new set of pickups and change the pots and caps. But all he had done was adjust the height of the stock ones.
Seven months later it still sounds good to my ears.

In 2012 I bought two new ones: a maple bodied blond Dot Worn Studio, and a special edition Dot EB ES355 w/Bigsby. Both at clearance at our local GC. The pups on the 355 are keepers, but the worn studio bridge pup is very honky and brittle in an ugly way that the tone knob can't cure. I have a SD blues '59 set that will go in shortly. The neck on the blond worn studio is very chunky - me likey. Interestingly that the wood makeup is the opposite to the dark worn studios (maple body + mahogany neck vs. mahogany body + maple neck).

Just to bring this thread a bit more up to date.
I gotta tell you, these Epi Dots are not worth much on the used market. I have a '90's dark tobacco 'burst Dot I picked up on eBay several years ago and due to life-changes, haven't played it much. I sold off some of my higher value gear a few years ago and even tried to sell off the Dot, but for what I was offered, it wasn't worth selling.
Not that I care to get rid of it either. I bought this one because the color was unique and I really love the look. I truly like the tone and feel of it, and even A/B'd it against a "real" ES335 with favorable results (maybe my ears aren't all that discerning). So I guess I'll just hang on to it and when the dust settles, I'll have a nice guitar to pull out when I'm looking for that dark, humbucker tone.

Epi is having some success with their 339 line now which looks somewhat similiar to the Dot.

Epi 335 Pro has neck binding and push/pull knobs to split the coils. As well as block inlays. Epi Dot has no binding ,Dot inlays and normal wiring.

I purchased the above Spc Ed 355 ebony late last year off the floor at GC. It came as-is but I noticed on-line that it was "supposed" to come with a brown tortise pickguard & mounting hardware. Though, there are no holes in the guitar for mounting(?). I tried GC but gave up on the run around. So I could write Epiphone or just order one from one of our sponsors - but my question is this: do I need one? Black is beautiful and I don't miss spoiling it with a brown tortoise guard. Though maybe gold might match the hardware. Does the body really need guarding from the plectrum? Will I regret not having a guard later?
