Spotted, thanks. Good to know that you are warming up to the Webers. The combination you have seem to be the common recommendation from Weber for the SR. Boutique builders of this amp seem to go with the same combo.
I was wondering, however, how the 10A150s sound on the top in lieu of the 1-1/4" coil. Anyone out there used the Weber 10A150s in there Supers?

I have now read the whole thread, great info about tubes and speakers, thanks to all of you.
I am sure I'll have some questions to further improve the amp's tone so keep your eyes open when new posts come in...

Bluesrast,
"...I seems to sound good with humbuckers as well single coil Fenders. Does anyone prefer one over the other through this amp?"
I don't have an SRRI, but I have a '64 Super Reverb. There are some guitars that especially love it, especially my Epiphone Sheraton (humbuckers). Personally I like humbuckers or Rickenbacker "toasters" best with the SR, and single coils with my Bassman Ltd RI or Custom Vibrolux Reverb.

Hi CashFan,
The speakers do sound better over time. The bass will improve, but I never found it to be strong. What wasn't working for me is that the highs felt harsh at higher volumes and lacked harmonic complexity. I also found that, for me, the range of the amps tone was fairly narrow.

How do you guys SRRIs sound above 6 with a Strat with Single Coils?
It gets dirty quickly and then above six gets garbled.
I have mine biased at 18.3 watts with Electro Harmonix 6L6s.
BTW it sounds great right around 3 to 4 with Strat straight in and T 6 M 6 B 4 and reverb on 3.
I bought mine off ebay as a Repairman's nightmare. The two resister 100K and 82K around the PI were fried open. This may has toasted the OT some.

From what I am reading in the DRRI SRRI Distorting too early post, that mine probably doesn't have a problem. This garbled sound is above 7 on volume and guitar volume all the way up. If I back off the volume it cleans up.

That certainly doesn't sound normal. Mine starts getting grit at 6-7 and just gets meatier and beefier on up from there. No garble here.

I have GT 12AX7s and Electro Harmonix 6L6s. I know V3 is harmonic and I haven't replaced it. What tubes do you have?

I changed at the microphonic tube which was in V2 not V3. It sounds much more like what rockinrobert describes.

I went with Mikes recommendations at KCA for the preamp. Here is a link to the page. My power tubes are still stock EH. I used the Mullard CV4024's in V6 & V3, and the Tung Sol reissue's in V2 & V4. Those are the only changes I've made. I only did that because I had "I've got to change stuff" syndrome. To me the amp is great stock if you are patient and let the speakers break in. To each their own. bOb

I attended a local blues music fest where Lurie Bell performed with nothing but a Gibson 335 and a Strat plugged straight in to a Super Reverb. I couldn't tell whether it was a SRRI or a period Blackface Super Reverb. At any rate he sounded great. I like you believe it sounds great stock.

rfrakes331K, what do you mean by garbled?
It's normal for a Super to not get much louder past 6, just more distorted. Also you have to turn the bass down as you turn the amp up, the Jensens can't handle all that bass. Bass position of 3 or less on the knob is considered normal when your cranking the volume.

I have it set at 4. As I turned it up, the distortion was the not pleasing kind. No smooth overdrive on power cords, just flub.
Changing V2, the microphonic tube, made a big difference. Obviously, the tube is bad also. I will test on my tube tester.
Thanks for the tip about the bass!

I am replacing the speakers in my 1966 Super Reverb. My tech has recommended the Eminence siver ones..they say they are 75 watts and kinda twangy.
Does anybody else have any advice?
Cheers,

It seems like my 5AR4 Rectifier tube is going. My SRRI blue two fuses yesterday. I tested all tubes and the 5AR4 tested bad for Emission yesterday, but rechecking today it reads right at the bottom edge of the Good range on a Sencore MU140. This the amp I bought off ebay that guys said they couldn't fix. I found after research on the Fender Forum that the 82 and 100K resistors around the PI were burned open. It's been fine for a year and a half.
Blue Strat, willie, Billm do you have any suggestions?

blakeharvard - Weber 10A125s. I tried the AlNiCo-Ceramic combo and did not like it. The 10A125s are very articulate, not too bright, and have an excellent bottom end the will not fart out when you turn the bass up to 7 or higher.

Installed the Weber Alnico CTA10's last night. (Ted Weber's mid 60's Alnico CTS10 clone)
WOW! These are REALLY nice speakers! Everything you would want in a great sounding 10" speaker. Clear, articulate, nice mids, great lows. NOT harsh, bright, brittle, strident, and VERY LITTLE (if any) low end flub. IMHO a worthwhile improvement over the stock Jensen P10R's. In a comparison the Jensens sound a little thinner, have a more pronounced (strident) top end, less girth, (I attribute that to the slight increase in mids with the CTA10s), and a looser low end. (flubby) The CTA10s have a nice rounded top end that is still very clear, sparkly, and articulate, but is not anywhere near as pronounced (BRIGHT) as it is with the Jensens. The mids in the CTA10s are pretty much perfect, and sit right under the highs where they should be. The lows are MUCH better than the Jensens as well. Fuller, but not boomy, and much less flub.
Basically, (again in a direct comparison) the Jensens sound like all their tone/sound is crammed into the upper mids (if any) and highs, while the CTA10s sound much fuller over the whole tonal spectrum.
HIGHLY recommended for those looking for a nice upgrade to the stock Jensen P10Rs.

Glad you like those speakers! On another point, I have never had any flub/farting with my stock Jensens, and I crank my amp occasionally. I have always thought my amps bass was HUGE and not farty. I can't imagine needing more bass than what it has.
