And he scores!
That stronger bridge is the only thing left in the strat pickup world I'd like to try. Other than that I'm set.

Congrats, SMark.
These are Custom Wound 60 set correct, not a set of the 1 of 300 ? The dates are all from 2010.
I have a s of these and they are my favorite, even over the Masterwound. Wonderfully balanced warm and woody and clear without any hint of icepick edginess. Mine are in my sunburst '66.
Enjoy those bad boys!

Thanx.
I got them today and they are right where I expected them to be...
6.00k - Neck
6.10k - Middle
6.85k - Bridge
This should be a fun set to play, can't wait to get them installed.
Another one of these "Holy Grail" Abby sets just showed up on eBay. But this one is just a bit too expensive for me...

wnstardis...
Yes, exactly. That eBay seller in Idaho (I think) has been selling loaded pickguards of these at a rate of about 1 every 2 months or so, and they always sell for over $700. I have bid a couple of those up over $600 in the past but couldn't get myself to spend any more than that, so I never won the auction. So this one here was a bargain in my book. The economy has to be playing into this. There was another set of Abbys that was listed from the UK that sold for under $400 last week. I was on the road and didn't have internet access at the time or I likely would have bid and won that set as well.
Let me see if I can find the link...

I haven't been tracking the auctions lately so I'm pretty much in the dark regarding these matters. I can't remember what I paid for the 60's Abby's. I'm glad that you were able to get a set at a price you are comfortable with.

I always get a kick out of eBay listings like this... They didn't sell for $900 the first time around, so the seller relists them and adjusts the price...

Thats insane, not even Masterwounds! I have a set of Masterwounds, Fat 50's and Custom 60's. The Custom 60's are the best IMO of them all. I have them in a 1988 62RI original and this guitar just sings. Great steal Mark!

Here's another Abby Masterwound set that poped up on eBay. This one is kind of weird. Read the description and make of it what you will. The COA is blank. The seller said someone at Fender told him it could have been a prototype that slipped out by mistake. But the dates on the pups are all 2001. I thought all the Masterwounds were 2000, and certainly if this is so, the prototype would not come after the release of the 300. Something just seems odd.

Yeah, my exact thoughts as well. Very strange. She did wind the 300 sets into 2001, but I don't recall how far into 2001. So it's more likely that this set came after the 300 rather than before the 300. Maybe the original cert was destroyed and the Custom Shop gave them a blank one to replace it? That's probably even more unlikely... Who knows?

HA!
Another weird-ism I just noticed is that those have the wrong stickers on them. And if you look closely at them it actually looks like those stickers may have been peeled off of another set before being placed on these.
What do you think?

I agree on the CS stickers. Just everything about them seem off. I emailed the seller and mentioned a few things to them to look at. The winner of the bid will be very upset if they think they are getting a set of 300's, which I don't believe they are. Mark, you're the expert here. Did the neck pup have a blue dot on them, or only red on the bridge? Especially on this set, I would be hard pressed to believe Fender QA would let a blank COA go out with these. Hard to get a good look, but the bevel looks to perfect to be hand beveled as well. I could be wrong, this could just be one of those rare finds.

I've seen it both ways with regard to the blue dot. My set has the blue dot but I've seen other sets without one. The one thing that nails it though is the pole stagger. The Masterwounds are the only Fender Custom Shop set that I know of that actually have a G-pole that is set well below the D-pole. Look closely and you will see that this is the case with these. So I am convinced that these are the real deal, but that cert still has me scratchin' my head...

There might be things that are somewhat "off" with those but nothing about the construction would point to them being anything less than real. Wire and bobbin color, magnet height, signature and even the bevel all look fine to me. All of the CS pickups I've had were beveled very precisely, including Abbies and a set of John English Masterbuilts. There seems to be three degrees: no bevel, slight bevel and extreme bevel depending on the pickup model, but all of them being very consistent.

So do I, Mark.
They went to a fellow down in Kissimme, Fl. Seemed like a nice guy and seemed to be a player, not a collector.
Ron,
For the record, Mike E at Fender Custom Shop is the fellow spreading those "rumors". Pickups wound by Josafina, her replacement, have already been spotted on the "Custom Shop ask Mike" forum. Please take it up with him, as I have no "insider information" and rely on Fender for facts regarding their products.
