A 'Yuri' sold on Ebay yesterday for $2650! I almost can't believe it. They have gone down alot in value...I wasn't expecting that to happen. Any of you have thoughts? I have #4084 and am glad I have it, but I paid a grand more!
They just never 'exploded' - but they are excellent and will be highly desireable one day.

Those are great guitars! Most definetely NOT chopped liver..

I've had a bunch...kept three for quite awhile....wish I had kept at least one of those.

Even though it's a "buyers market" that price isn't too far off the mark. I bought the Yuriy I had in '05 brand new for $2800.

Prices are down across the board on all models. Definitely a buyer's market.... Although I paid $2,900 for my Dennis Galuszka in 2006.... And it will be a very long time before I consider getting rid of it. I consider myself very lucky to have one, and feel that the real value of the MB 54 is in its representation of the original through attention to detail (it's the closest I will ever come to owning a real 54) and its playability and tone.

A good friend once said "If you buy smart, owning a Strat is like having money in the bank". I believe that to be true, but from an investment standpoint it seems like any real dividends are at least 20 years out, if not more. My 91 Strat Plus that I paid $700 for in 1992 would fetch maybe $950 on e-bay today in excellent condition with OHSC and all case candy. That's 27% over 18 years. Not exactly a windfall.... More like putting your money in a CD (which is the equivalent of "money in the bank").

It sounds like you are glad to have it, so just keep enjoying it! And yes, being a special limited edition model, the MB 54s will definitely bring a premium one day.... Just not today!
;-)

The economy is impacting sales across the board. As an example, vintage blackface amps in mint condition that would have fetched $3K, 6 months ago, are now trading at a little over $2K on eBay.

Buying a modern guitar for an investment is a bit silly in my opinion. There is no shortage of guitars or production. The one exception is if you were to find the world's biggest name, most famous maker who everyone agrees is the most famous maker, have them build you an amazing one of a kind guitar, then have them kick the bucket so there will be no more made by them - then you could likely do okay.

I think the Custom Shop has many exceptionally talented makers, but I don't think any of them have really risen to a point where everyone says that is "The Man" who outshines all of the others to the point where every order comes in asking for that one guy and no one else will do to build their guitar.

I paid 1600 for my Yuri last year as it was rather badly advertised. All case candy and COA!

If the supposed Feb (large) Fender price increases become true next month, this may affect the value of the '54 CS Masterbuilt's right?

With such a large increase in retail pricing ..... but then sales have prob slowed meaning less demand.....

crazy that there is a such a large upcoming price (retail) increase...

anyone have any ideas as to how the increase will affect the value of the '54 50th CS MB's ?

"anyone have any ideas as to how the increase will affect the value of the '54 50th CS MB's ?"

Probably not at all. The value of the MB 54s will always (from the day the last one was sold retail) be based on supply and demand and (on a smaller scale) the state of the economy and impact of other socio-economic forces. People want them, so there is demand. And currently it seems like there are less people that want to part with them. I haven't looked recently, but up until a short time ago, there seemed to be a steady supply of them e-bay. Not many, just steady.

interesting observation "abner" - thanks!

i don't want to part with my MB '54 but may be forced to do so in a couple of months - just so I can at least get what I paid I won't feel so bad.

i never imagined I'd have to sell it - but times are rough...

Hope that doesn't happen, hush. I remember selling a lot of good gear when I was younger to make ends-meet. Good luck.
