I like my singing voice, can't stand my speaking voice. I cringe anytime I hear a recording of me speaking.

I've had some positive feedback on a song I recorded recently. I've been listening to it to get used to my voice. And now I don't mind it as much as I used to.
So, I wouldn't say I like it, but I'm getting used to it. Call it acceptance.

I've always been in the "back-up singer" category in bands. I recently did my first gig as the "front man"... just to do it... after 40 years!
I was very pleased that people were flipping out after the show. They loved it.
But I listened back to a recording of it and I still think my voice sounds terrible! The pitch is fine, but... ICK

(Actually some old tapes I have of me singing lead are palatable.)

Worcester is my base now. Gotta ask, which hotel, which arena? Love this ancient history stuff...plus EB still has it going on, one of my favorite singers, no Mel torme, lots of tude and delivery, good taste in tunes too.....

I was a backup singer but got to sing lead about one out of five of the songs. I hated my voice at that time.
I'm decent enough that people still ask me to sing. I no longer dislike my voice.

On my first CD the engineer recorded me w/o effects and made me listen to the takes w/o instrumentation or effects via 2" (tin-can) speakers. Made me gag everytime....but made me a better singer.

The bass player that I have played with bashed my singing about 3 wks ago. Since then I have been working harder on my voice, using a cheap boom box cassette recorder and just recording the room. I am probably pretty good about 95% of the time, but the other 5%... We probably need to get someone else who is an ok guitar player to do at least 70% of the vocals, and let me mainly concentrate on guitar. I may need to talk to the guys in the band about it tonight. Drummer will say, sure to that, I don't know about the bass player (not the same guy as the one who kinda let me have it; he is a Ronnie Van Zandt fan or just really likes lead singers).

No, I don't. I don't think most singers do (not that I'm a singer).

I didn't even recognize it at first. Now I realize that it's just one of those sounds I have to work with and I don't have the option to pick a new one.

Not really. However, if somebody is singing harmony behind me, and singing it well, it seems to smooth over my "pitchy" spots.
I'm playing in an acoustic duo now, singing a lot of harmony, and really enjoying it. The other guy is a great singer.

Not really - think it has to do with initial bad experiences as a teen learning to sing in the choir - other teens can be really degrading when your pitch is not exactly right - over the years have had the opportunity to lead in worship services - not comfy with that either - the band I'm in asked me to sing a song I brought in for the lead vocalist to sing - I don't like hearing myself in the monitors so I'm having to learn to sing through my sense of inadequate vocals and a lack of learned ability to sing harmony - maybe I'll get it one day then again....

I really don't enjoy my singing voice at all, but I've learned to live with it on my home recordings...because there was no one else to sing. After a while, I determined a comfort zone for my vocals and I tend to work in that zone...

I recently was asked to sing at my church's retreat. Never really did any singing in public before, so I worked on my voice. I recorded into Garageband on my Mac and was horrified to hear what I sounded like. It was so bad I almost told my church to find someone else. I had my wife listen to me sing and then listen to the recording (made at that time). She said my live voice was good and that I didn't sound anything like the recording.
I guess what I'm getting at is, be careful how you evaluate your own voice.
