This is why we do 50/90, FAWM, RPM and all those things that make us write songs. OK, my nephew was in town and we cranked up the recorder to get this song in the books. Lots more work to do, but gotta move on.

Once in A Lifetime Love
(c) Kevin Emmrich 2009

Sam Everett: two bass tracks, roland spd-20 percussion, harmony vocal
Kevin: vocal, acoustic guitar, banjo, harmonica

(Verse)
hair brown
tumblin' down
lips so sweet
knock me off my feet

(chorus)
it's a once in a lifetime love
i like everything she does
nothing can compare
with this once in a lifetime love

(verse)
green grass
wine glass
fruits of summer
this spell i'm under

(chorus)
it's a once in a lifetime love
i like everything she does
nothing can compare
with this once in a lifetime love

(bridge)
we go way back
and it's always been like that
always can depend
on a lifelong friend

(verse)
hair grey
words we still say
it's the little things
that she brings .... to this

(chorus)
.... once in a lifetime love
i like everything she does
nothing can compare
with this once in a lifetime love

Nice tune. Nice vocals.

My only suggestion would be to knock out a chorus or two. It got pretty repetive. Maybe an instamental break over the chorus changes once or twice?

Well done.

I agree, at 3:30 it might be a bit long for so much sameness. Maybe when I re-record, I can jump to the bridge instead of chorus #2 (then verse 3 and chorus). Thanks for the listen and comments.

I know it's hard to believe, but I do not think it needs an instrumental part, just need to end it ASAP (LOL).

A short sad banjo break would be nice.

OK - I think it's great. Very well done, and I love the banjo, and the rest of the arraingment, but one thing kind of sticks out to me.

I did a song a couple of years ago that was a pretty high energy rock number that I really liked. But after I shared it with a few people, I kept getting the same response - "I really like it, but all I can think of is Sweet Jane when I listen to it."

Turns out I had used the same chord changes in the same key as the classic, and even though nothing else in the two songs sounded remotely similar, those chord changes, even though they have probably been used on countless other songs in much the same way, just seem to belong in a really unique way to Sweet Jane to a lot of people (myself included after that incident).

I don't have a good enough ear to tell if it's in the same key or exactly the same rhythm to the changes, and I realize a good bit of your song deviates from the main progression of the verses, but nevertheless, with a lot of empathy I must say what was said to me many times....

I love the song, and even though they sound nothing like each other for the most part...I keep hearing Sweet Jane (mostly the Cowboy Junkies version) when I listen to it.

But hey - that's not necesarily a bad thing.

Sweet Jane???? I thought "What is this guy smoking?" -- but then I listened to Sweet Jane by Cowboy Junkies and I can see the similarities. I'm not overly worried about it, though. Thanks for listening and the comments, I appreciate it.

Definitely not meant as a slight, and definitely nothing to worry about. Listening to Sweet Jane, they're not nearly as similar as it seemed to me listening to your song the first time. I don't know why it jumped out at me like that.

Anyway, I like the song - I wouldn't change a thing.
