When I say larger I mean larger drums ... not large quantity of drums ;)

I made a killer deal on wood snare shells on eBay, so I am making two snares ... a 5.5" and a 7".

I am planning to wrap them in black oyster pearl. Jammin Sam has two styles and I am leaning toward this one. They have no PICs of completed drum kits with this one yet ... it's a new offering.

Anyone think I'm making the wrong choice.

I'll make a link to the other one as well for comparison.

I'm looking to match an old drum I have in Black Diamond pearl.

I'm looking for the closest match. Of course it will be impossible to get an exact match. I called Jammin Sam and Precision Drum they both are going to send me a sample to help with my purchase.

One of the drums I purchased on ebay is a very nice diamond pearl ... it's almost a shame to rewrap it, but I will :)

This isn't one of the best bargins I found but it's a very, very nice rack tom ... arrived just yesterday

I hear you Blonde Strat!!

I've got a Club Date Project going and I needed 8X12 tom to complete the project. Finding one in BDP pearl was not going to be easy. I found a drum that has been refurbished that looks amazing. I sure hate to pull the wrap off it.

It's not original so I don't feel to bad about it just looks so NICE.

I still need to find a bass drum ... I'm hoping to get a decent 24" X 16".

Yesterday I purchased a very cherry metal snare for parts to assemble my other two wood snares with.

The lugs and hoops will go on my 7X14 snare shell and the throw-off, butt plate and strainer will go on the 5.5X14.

Found my 24" X 16" bass shell. It's only a shell, but I'll be able to get the wraps for all the pieces at once now.

Jammin Sam is sending me samples of some wraps ... might arrive today :)

Boy did I get a tongue lashing over in a drum forum.

I scored some 80's NOS Bermuda Sand wrap cheap.

So that's the wrap my project is going to be.

Well one guy scolds me for removing the wrap off the black diamond pearl bass drum I have.

I thought hard about it. The drum is an orphan that has 6 spots that have been patched with something that is not made from a wrap material. I'm guessing filled with something then painted over to try and match the wrap.

Oh well it's my drum I can do what I want with it!!!

;~)

Here's the reply I got. This guy and I kind of started out being buds even exchanged a few private messages. I bet he won't send me anymore advice.

"Wait a minute! You can't just do that! Those drums thought they were Black Diamond Pearls! If you want champagne Clubdates, go get some somewhere else!.."

Nice ;)

BTW, my 24 X 16 Bass showed up today ... looks very, very nice. A 24 X 16 bass is pretty big, did you know that?

I had to re-order my samples ... after a week and a half of waiting they never showed up ... I called again this morning.

Found a *snare apparatus* for my 7X14, ten lug snare today.

Includes the throw off, strainer, butt plate and it's all Slingerland. Just need some nice 2.5" tension rods and this baby is complete and ready for a wrap.

As a side note: I also found a decent pair of hoops for my 24" bass this morning

here it is :)

I'm refinishing my BD hoops. I discovered that one of them has a 1' section that is splitting down the middle. Going to have to get some water thin CA and see if I can fix it.

There both pretty dinged up so I've been filling and sanding on them.

That snare setup looks a lot like the Ludwig P-83 I just bought for my Acrolite I put together.

Acro goodness

Mine are actually Ludwig hoops ... but I figure hoops are pretty much all just hoops.

These do appear to need a bit of TLC like yours, but I plan to get drum wrap cover for the inlay on the rings, so I figured I needed these before I get too deep into drum wraps

Got my samples ... It's going to be either the *60s Black Oyster Pearl* or the *Golden Boa*.

Covers for all the drums I currently have will run $490.00 for the oyster Pearl or $400.00 for the Golden Boa ... and the price will have very little impact on the choice.

Here is what I have:

24X16 Bass
18X16 Floor Tom
15X12 Rack Tom
13X9 Rack Tom
14X7 Snare
14X5.5 Snare

Hopefully this a scan of the Golden Boa ... this was actually my very first choice

Received my bass rings. They appear solid and are painted black. They have the usual and expected small chips and dents.

If I go with the Golden Boa I don't see the rings being black. I'll be cleaning them up for brown stain and clear coat (or oil).

It's going to take some time and diligence, but I have a good supply of both ;)
