On the Renegade 2x12, I can do exactly that.

Oh, yeah! I see that. Cool. It's o.k., I'm quite happy with one tube mix. Nice to know it's out there, tho....

Let's talk settings. I find the R30 has some fuzzyness on gain that I'm not crazy about and boominess on clean. Maybe the same cause. I'm peeking at some settings I had going for a Gretsch 5120. On a 0-12 scale, Ch1 B 3, T 9. Ch2 Gain on 7, B3, M8, T5 but bright switch on. Keep the bass on low and I find the bright switch makes the difference for HBs. Still have not found a great setting for single coils - Strats or Teles. Going for pop, country, and 70s rock, not heavy or metal. Could also be the speaker stlll needs more hours on it.

For one thing, try just popping the Bright switch off for the single coils.

The Tight switch may help with the boominess on Ch.1.

Re: the fuzziness. Where is your Ch. 2 power level set? If it's closer to the 1 watt setting, try cranking it all the way to the 20 watt side. This control doesn't really to do a whole lot, but it does allow for a little more headroom. Maybe that will help.

If you're interested in what a Rebel-30 sounds like, go to the thread below. It's got a link to a jam I did recently.

Les Paul into the Egnater head, with a 1x12 ported Rivera cabinet. I think there's just a little reverb from the amp, and a bit of compression overall to try to get the recording under control. Was just done on my handheld Tascam digital recorder. I think you can hear that it's putting out a decent tone, though!

I'm pretty sure all the overdrive is coming from the amp as well. Don't think I have any other pedals on....

Thanks gdw3. I was thinking the fuzzy and boomy bassyness was the Egnater 1x12 cab too because I tried the Vox night train through that cab to test, and that cab delivers tons of bass. However, no dis on your tone or great playing, but I'm hearing the same thing in your jam tape. I think it must be that I expect an upper midrange barky tone when OD engaged, and the Egnater seems designed for upper mids scooped and low midrange focused (fuzzy) to my ears. It's my ears I guess. I will mess with the tone knobs more and flex my ears. The tone controls do have a lot of power on the amp as opposed to a lot of other amps.

Interesting. You know, I was thinking "buzzy", not "fuzzy" in responding to your post. Yeah, I can see that, especially with the Les Paul running thru it. Quite different with the Strat, as it has less output. Much more spanky. Although, I think if you listen to the single held notes I play, especially up high, I think they are quite clear. I have quite a bit of gain on at that moment. Did you try the Tight switch to reign in that boominess?

Oh yes, the tight is on. Just played through an A/B box against my old Mark IIb Mesa trying to duplicate the tone but the Egnater would not go there. The preamp seems to scoop that frequency completely out. Of course the amp will do what
I ask with a Fulldrive in front, even with just the clean boost on. But I try to avoid pedals if I can - sound great but one more thing to fiddle with. and go wrong at the inopportune moment. Though the FD2 does wonders with a strat if you want to break out a solo. I do need to get to know this amp. Sold something else and picked up the R30 new as a replacement, but I can never really judge what I'm getting by fiddling in the store. Different is good but need to get happy with it. I have a similar issue with a DRRI that just sits in the closet. The boogie, Vox NT and modded Blues Jr get way more play time.

Ok what comes closest on the R30 to the Boogie for old Stones on a Tele is:
Gain - 1:30
Bass - 2
Mids - 12
Treb - 3
30watts, tube blend in middle
Bright - on
Tight - on
And the secret to getting the more barky tone on the Egnater is rolling the guitar bridge tone back a little further. The amp tone knobs would not get me there alone. With guitar tone further up the fizzy between the amps is more obvious. Not sure how that translates to an LP if at all. I guess one can also cut the bright off, but bright on and treble low produces a different result than the reverse.

gdw3-I *really* like your playing and tones but would have liked more rhythm playing (or chord type stuff) to compliment your lead playing.

Thanks, zen. It was just a free jam, and I was getting my rocks off. I rarely get accused of under-playing.

Oops sorry, just realized I meant gain at 7.5 on a 12 point scale. I had a brain freeze and was thinking O'Clock when I said gain at 1:30. Easier to dial in rock on a sc strat with gain 7, B3, M8-9, T8-9, tight, no bright.

Well, I just joined the club for the 2nd time. Sort of accidentally.

I've been trying to sell my Rivera combo amp. It just wasn't getting used, and I never bonded with the OD channel.

So, a guy offered to trade me his Tourmaster head. I balked at it, but finally, he offered me some cash too.

So I went over to his place, and we tried each others amps. I love the various tones of the Tourmaster!!! But, jeez, it is heavy. But I do really like it.

And he played a Hamer with P-90's through the Rivera, and it sounded great! (Made me want to take the Rivera back and get a guitar w/ P-90s!).

So, we were both happy, and now I have a big brother to my Rebel-30.

I actually like the clean sounds better on the Tourmaster, because there is a gain control where you can add a bit of dirt. No gain control on the clean side of the Rebel, so played at low volumes, it's too clean for me! But does work well with my pedal board. Have yet to try the pedals on the big boy.

Also, dude taught me a neat trick on the Tourmaster:

If you're not using the effects loop, jumper a cable between the send and return, and voila! You now have a boost that you can kick in with the pedal!

(You need to set appropriate send and return levels. You also need to make sure your loop is in Series mode, and have it on Remote/Off, so the pedal will work on all channels. Otherwise, it'll come on automatically on what channels you have it set to).

Thanks.

So, now I've done another test recording with my new Egnater Tourmaster, but this time, with my Lipe guitar. Mike was tweaking it a little for me, and I was glad to get it back. Man, that thing plays and sounds good!

Now THIS is how the amp should sound! See my link above to the same thread.

Here's a more produced track. All guitar sounds are my Lipe Twisted Soldato thru the Tourmaster. Not bad. It sounds pretty much like it does in person, although I'm starting to think I lose a little bit of the sweetness going thru my old MOTU interface. Need a better pre-amp and A/D conversion.

Anyway....

Edited to add: this one is using the clean channel.

Also, here's a track showing off the Tourmaster's highest gain channel, for rhythm guitar.
