Hi, never been in this forum before. A buddy has asked me to find him a left-handed pickguard for a DC-1. It's a right-handed guitar, but he says he "plays like a drummer" and needs a guard above and below the sound hole. What's a good place to source parts for Guild?

You might try emailing these folks. Read the lower part of the homepage under "Guild Parts."

Someone passed my inquiry on to Hans Moust at Guitars Galore and he fixed me up with a piece of period-correct tortoiseshell stock. Nice guy to deal with and very prompt on emails and shipping. Many thanks to the person who put us together.

I just received the sheet of tortoiseshell. I was surprised by how much thinner and more flexible it was than anything I've worked with. Is there a preferred method for cutting this stuff? It almost looks like a steady hand with an Olfa knife would do it.

I use a jeweler's saw to cut out the general shape. Then I use a Dremel tool (at low speed so as not to overheat/melt the plastic), a file and some sandpaper to finish up.

>>>Be sure to cut out your guard's shape OUTSIDE your drawn outline and work in toward it.
