My buddy has a 1998 Strat Ultra with a stock Floyd Rose trem bridge. He feels that changing strings with this type of bridge is inconvenient (cutting the ball end, allen wrench...), so he would like to change it out for a string through the body style trem. I have seen different types of 2 point trems available i.e. vintage vs. newer style saddles, push in vs. screw in trem arm...
Are all American Fender 2 point trem bridges interchangeable? If not, what will work with a 98 Strat Ultra?
Thanks,

If it's the Floyd that requires a face rout (recess in the front of the body), it will need some experienced repair work done before a standard 2-point vibrato bridge can be fitted. The one I really like is the Wilkinson VS-100. It has a vibrato arm that's unthreaded; you simply press it into place, and the adjustable clutch holds the bar securely in the bridge.
If your pal is not emotionally attached to that body, he can remove all the parts from it and install them on a replacement Strat body that's prepped for a standard Strat vibrato bridge. Sell the original body on fleabay and recoup some of the costs. Check out "Stratosphere" on the 'bay for bodies. That guy has good stuff for not too much $$.

There is no additional routing on the body in the bridge area. The way the bridge connects to the body looks identical to the common 2 point bridge system used on most strats. My main concern was that I would overlook some minor detail buy the wrong replacement.
I know he wants to keep the original body and it sounds like I can install a replacement without having to do any mods. I'll check out the Wilkinson VS-100. Thanks for the help.
