So amputation is in my very near future.

Hopefully it will be a transmetatarsal amputation. Which means losing all my toes and about half my foot. That's actually not so bad. I will still have all my ankle tendons, which will stabilize the heal of my foot. I should still be able to stumble about.

If the bone infections are present but not totally showing up on the scans; I may have to have a below knee amputation. I won't know until I wake up in the recovery room. ( This is why we are doing more house renovations. Wheelchair accessible. )

( I'll take bone loss for $500.00, Alex. )

So, forget that I am an opinionated know it all, so I might Preach a bit. If you still smoke cigarettes, stop. Nothing good comes from smoking. My dad died from PAD at age 54. My dear older brother died from lung cancer three years ago.
Cigarettes took my best buddies. And it hurts to be so alone.

Intermittent Claudication. (look it up) If you get pain in your calf muscles while walking; and the pain goes away when you stop walking. See a Doctor. You may have Peripheral Artery Disease. It'll kill ya.

Loose weight. Type 2 Diabetes will kill you. It will make you prone to infections.

In short; I have Diabetes, COPD, PAD, Chronic Osteomyelitis, and MRSA. Do everything in your power to reduce your chances of acquiring any of these things. It takes a strong, healthy, slightly mad individual to live like this. But be reassured; I will not go down easily. I'm one of the toughest, most strong willed people I know. Unfortunately, that counts for nothing.

I'll be around 'till thursday night ...... and for anyone fighting battles of their own; don't give up. Never lose hope. Don't make me go over there and smack you !!!!!!!

That's pretty much as I described you not long ago to somebodyorother who was complaining of your occasional irascibility. I then went on to explain that "St. Rupert is a fair-to-middlin' good poet even on the worst of days, intelligent beyond the norm and possessed of empathy, compassion and sensibility. But what's made Rupert a candidate for sainthood is that a lesser man such as myself would have depopulated a good portion of New England out of sheer rage if he had as many critters gnawing at his flesh and bone as Rupert."

Here's to going under the knife and waking up with your full height.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieve it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Dylan Thomas

Stay tough, stay meaner than "it" We will be thinking of you. Mark

Robert, my thoughts & prayers are with you.

My wife's family has suffered the effects of diabetes ever since I've known her. They endured everything you did, down to the amputations too.

So we are all too familiar with your situation.

Even though I don't know you personally it hurts to see you go through this because of what Theresa's family endured.

I know that the outcome is not what you would want, but please know that we are all thinking of you and pulling for the best.

Robert R, all the best. I also have Type 2 in the family, so trying to what I can to keep it away as long as possible, following all your advice.I had some black humor for the situation, but decided against it, for now. If you're up for it, just say so.
