Ah, I keep forgetting that my long tank reverb isn't stock, I replaced it so long ago. To my ears it sounds as glorious as a Deluxe. Now if I could only find a mod to convert the Lead Level (and while we're at it, the Master) to "Speed" and "Intensity" ;-)

Howdy boys and girls.

Greetings from Canada, eh...

I have a PR II that I have some questions about. I'll start with the first revelation. Upon checking out Stratopastor's amp-dating page for Rivera-era amps I am kinda puzzled. I have a serial #F 148xxx.
Comments? This SN does not seem to fit...

Yeah my S/N is F207XXX which puts it around autumn of 1982. I see no reference on Andrew's site about any serial numbers for the PRII below 200X.

Does your have the original speaker? Maybe some codes from there would clarify.

Well, the prototype signed off by designer Ed Jahns is a F148xxx. You can see it about two-thirds of the way down this page. Gergton, maybe this is yours - I haven't heard from Dave P for over 10 years, maybe he parted with it. If this one isn't yours then it's another prototype. I'd be pleased if you could email me the serial number and any other distinguishing marks.

Littleuch is right, as far as normal production is concerned the Rivera-era started with a run of Super Champs beginning F200001. Anything beginning F1 will be pre-production.

Happy New Year to both our readers....

Gergton kindly emailed me and it turns out his PRII is another one with s/n F148xxx, not the one signed off by Ed Jahns. So maybe there are a handful of pre-production amps which escaped from Fullerton, maybe given away by sales guys or whatever.

Lol, Happy New Year to you too.

On another note, looking at completed listings on Ebay it seems like the PRII is making more appearances but the sold prices continue to fall somewhere in the $650 US range. Still a bargain IMO if you compare what that'd buy you from the new amp market.

I don't know, but I'm impressed. Christian, I'll stick to English since you write it so well... Happy New year!

Nice! I've been tempted to recover mine in some seafoam green tolex.

If you haven't seen it already, there's an example of seafoam green about halfway down the same page.

I did, very nice. I don't particularly like a black panel on seafoam but the changed knobs add a nice touch. A wheat grill would be cool, too.

wow, it's been a while.

I've just fitted a cheap and simple amp-powered fan using the DC supply available fom the red footswitch socket.

Nifty! Being that I've fired up my PRII for about 30 minutes in the past year I think I'm good without the fan.

I miss making noise :-/

Yeah, yeah. Its just that I've moved 1200 miles away from all my bandmates and live in a condo now. I still play but mostly through tabletop foolishness into my recording program.

The itch for a band hasn't been strong enough to go looking.

Aha. I'm in the same situation, though it was only 250 miles. I play in church but just haven't got the time to join a gigging band (and maybe there's a Groucho Marxist thing going on there anyway - would I want to join any band that would have me as a member?)

With an archtop, I used the PRII for a kind-of jazz/showtunes thing just before Christmas and folks told me it sounded jazzy. Whatever that means.

check out the photo currently on the front page of the PRII website - the woody PRII with a dovetailed perspex top, made by Fender as a 1983 NAMM exhibit, is up for sale....

edit - it sold within hours! cool though, no?
