i think trad. and current standard/dlx look so much better and "complete (i'm not talking late 60's-70's big headstocks)....the tele ones just seem like they are cut off short...funny thing i don't like tele with strat head stocks like the tele dlx...so i guess it works for tele's....but in general i think they got it right the 2nd time around...the contours, curves, horns and headstock....all seem an improvement to me over the Tele....also the 3 pickups/switching with option (once discovered) of 5 way) opens so many more tonal doors than traditional/vintage tele switching.

oh obviously in the title of this thread i meant "so' not "some"....

Otis, I agree with you. It's all a matter of personal taste, but to me the Strat headstock and overall looks far surpass the Tele. I've always thought the Tele looks a bit odd.

Might be part of the reason I've owned a number of Strats, but never a Tele! (I also like the sound of a Strat better.)

I like them both, but I like the strat headstock a little better (big head stock or classic). I have a deluxe tele. Problem solved.

I did it because it's the only way to get a 12" fret board radius and the large 70s Stratocaster headstock.

Nice. Love the CBS headstock. I just put my tele neck on a strat body as well, last week. The squared butt of the neck wouldn't let it sit in the pocket very well. Didn't seem to affect anything.

i have to disagree; I have a strat with a tele neck (a luthier would weep if he could see the state of the neck pocket after my amateur hacking of wood, but it works)...I think the tele headstock looks better and on a strat it matches the body's curves nicely, it all looks rather elegant. Just personal taste of course but i like it

When you consider the overall unadorned design of the Telecaster, you wonder why Leo and pals didn't leave the 6-in-line headstock just large enough to accommodate the tuners. His first design for the guitar (the so-called "snake head" headstock) was simply a slightly reduced copy of his 3+3 lap steel headstock of the time.

A few minutes of examination, and you realize the shape of the headstock has nothing to do with engineering or aesthetics considerations.

The headstock shape is strictly based on brand recognition and...safety!

Brand recognition - a slight bulge in the wood surface to accommodate a logo that can be seen from at least 30 feet away, and

Safety - The rounded end is a stroke of genius. Even the corners of a non-"pointy" guitar like a Les Paul headstock hurt on a crowded stage =o)

I like both the large and small Strat headstocks, and the Tele headstock shape. I've gotten used to 'em over the years.

Brand recognition is also the reason why CBS blew up the headstock on the Strat: they wanted television viewers to recognize Fenders on TV when the camera shot was not close enough to read the logo. It worked...that was marketing genius.

Tele headstock is the best. Basically, they never changed it. They tried to enlarge the Strat and it didn't work . Smaller is better! :)

I dig both Strat & Tele head stock shapes... They are noticeably cousin guitars......

The tele is a very plain looking guitar. As musicians we have the ability to understand the simplicity of the design and what makes them so great and for that reason we grow to love the look and shape of them. And some people just love the tele look.

But when I was much younger I was always put off by the tele design. I didn't like the tiny headstock and square slab body design. I couldn't see myself spending all my money on such a plain looking guitar that I couldn't bond with. I read about the tele's unique tone but couldn't understand or believe why I couldn't get that tone and more from a Strat. But as the years went by and I heard all those great solos and found out that they were played on a tele I had no choice but to buy one.

Now I love the look of the tele as much as I love the tone and now I own several teles.

However I still love the Strat headstock design much more than the tele. It looks much more balanced and accurate to me.

As a kid watching all of the Country Western acts on TV I really liked the Tele headstocks. I didn't think much about the guitars at the time, when I got a guitar it was a Goya classical. I liked the body style of a Strat because I thought Jimi looked good playing one. When a person is a teen ager, so much is about image!
