Hi there. my pal has one of the reissue mustangs and the plastic on the tuning pegs has stripped and now the strings can not be tuned... this has happened to two of them on the same guitar (oddly enough both of the "e" string tuning pegs) anybody else have this problem and if so what was done to remedy this?
are fender parts really this crappy this day and age? the guitar was purchased new about two years ago. can we ship the parts to be replaced instead of the whole guitar since i am assuming that it is under warranty still?

Yeah, they're junky.
Hell, even the original ones on the mid-60s Mustangs (so-called "F Tuners" with white plastic buttons) were junky. Most players replaced 'em.
So...BRAVO to Fender for sticking with the original plan and re-issuing the Mustang with true-to-history crappy tuning machines =o|
The best bet is to take it to an authorized Fender service center and speak with the tech to see what Fender will do to stand behind their gear.

IDK, but my '72 Mustang with the original tuners has no problems. Neither does my buddy's '73 Mustang. Not sure why all the compliants. My '82 bullet has the same tuners albeit with the metal instead of plastic knobs. No tuning problems either...

I never had any issues with vintage ones (other than them being a little stiff), but I'm a careful tuner...

My plastic "F" tuners on my '73 Mustang work fine! And the ones on my Pawnshop Special work fine. No problems here ever!

I think they were the same tuners all Fenders used- Strats, Teles, Jazz masters...so the Mustang's should be any different. You maybe just got a bad one or something. All of mine work perfect. I forgot to mention I also have an '03 Jag-Stang with the same tuners as my new Mustang Special. No probs with any of the 3!

Take back what I said about my 2011 Pawnshop Series Mustang- the "B" tuning peg is getting sloppy so I need to replace it. The 1972 & 1973 I own are rock solid!

replaced that tuning peg and now have been using my Mustang Special as my main gigging guitar. I had a souped up '82 Bullet with SD Hotrails in it that I was using but the guys said it was "too edgy" sounding, which is kinda what I was going for. Oh well. The Mustang rocks too!
