I found an empty '57 Twin RI cab on CL and bought it for $40. Now I'm going to fill it up with goodies.

I have a pair of Chicago Jensen C12Ns that I got for nothing and reconed for $120 for the pair. I ordered all the other parts, chassis, iron, pots, jacks and semiconductors for another $435.

A tweed Twin for under $650 bucks including shipping! I'm jazzed! I hope to get it soldered up over the Holidays and finish the 6G16 too.

Check with Doug Marsh, he may have 'em. Weber's chassis aren't bad, either. In fact, I've found Weber's component boards to be more true to the originals.

Post pics as this goes along. I'm getting the bug thinking about this!

I think it's Mike Marsh but I had ordered the kit parts from Mike & Denise. Since I was going no cab, speakers or tubes they had the sudo kit drop shipped from Mojo rather than parting out a complete kit of their own.

Denise shipped me a chassis from their inventory and has the B/O redirected to Marsh. I'll be back in business on Monday the 16th.

Thay have always been great to do business with.

I got my Super kit from Marsh, they were fantastic to work with.

I'm finally making progress in this build. The main (only) board is completed and all the needed wires are attached to it. All pots, iron, jacks & switches are mounted to the chassis and I have installed my ground buss connecting all jacks. pots and power tubes to earth.

I built an "L" bracket that mounts to the upper left power tranny bolt that will connect the weight of the iron in the back of the chassis to the cabinet. The two bolt mounting system won't support the weight of the iron so it had to be done.

I need to drill the board and chassis for mounting then wire it up and test. A lack of free time has slowed the build.

As I remember from putting one of these together for a customer a few years ago, these things are 10 lbs of crap in a five lb box. Everything must be planned in advance. In some ways a tweed Twin is easier to build than a blackface amp and in some ways more difficult. A lack of room to work in the chassis slows progress.

I tried Marsh's ground buss idea on my 5F4 build and had a hum fest. I removed it and went to a Leo-style brass plate, no more hum.

That's not good news but we will see what happens. I've done the buss grounds on many BF builds and had no problems but I expanded on Mike Marsh's ideas a bit bussing both the control pannel and rear pannel of the amps. I should know by Monday night what I got.

I think he overdoes it. The Marshall style pot buss wire will work fine. He just ties together too many grounds and on mine it caused obvious loops.

I set up two ground busses. One for jacks and pots on the contol side of the chassis and another for the output jack and power tubes on the bottom or tube side of the chassis.

My grounds from the board are connected to the control side buss. This buss teminates at a terminal strip bolted the PT.

The bottom side terminates at a second strip bolted to an opposite PT bolt.

I mounted and wired in the board yesterday. I have the trannys, main power and filiments to do yet. I'm saving the fils. 'til last so I don't have to work around them. Things look very tidy so far. I'm proud of my lead dress on the controls and the pre tubes.

I got the tip of my little finger on my left hand into the soldering iron yesterday while contorting to solder inside the chassis. Ouch & dumb too. Not a real bad burn but just enough to make it painfull to play guitar. I have a gig Friday $ Saturday. Get well soon. eh?
