I went into REAL GUITARS in San Francisco yesterday to drop off a Strat for a PLEK job at Gary Brawer's shop inside.
Then i saw it...
A 1972 Guild G-37 acoustic on the wall. After five minutes of nirvana playing it, I bought the guitar (came with it's original Guild hardshell case) for $825 out-the-door.
Next stop was the weekly Open Mic at Cameron's Pub & Inn on the coast in Half Moon Bay, CA. I played Gene Vincent's "Be Bop A Lula", Patrick Sky's "Separation Blues", and "Greensleeves" and just LOVED the tone!
The G-37 is a dread-size guitar that has maple back and sides, solid mahogany neck (in 1972), and an arched back. RINGS LIKE A BELL! This is the first G-37 I've ever seen and/or played in my life.
i'm a very happy dude!

For a guy who regularly extolls the virtues of Collings guitars (I think that's you...??), you sure are a Guild junkie. But I understand!

Cool guitar, congrats !
Laminated maple back and sides gives it some jazz nuance.
