The biggest difference between my vintage '73 Mustang and my new Mustang Special Pawnshop Series is the neck. Fender says the Pawnshop Mustang has a "60's C shaped" neck. Does anyone know what the '73 has? The Pawnshop 'Stang's neck is definitely fatter and flatter plus it seems to have jumbo frets. TBH, it's a completely foreign feeling neck to me from any of my other Fenders or non-Fender guitars. I also have a Jaguar HH Special and it's neck feels just like my '73 Mustang does.
I thought I had it setup to my liking but the more I play it, I can't seem to get into the groove with it. I am thinking of taking it in for a professional setup and intonation and see what it plays/feels like afterwards.
I measured the width at the nut of both the '73 and the Pawnson and they are both 1 5/8". But the Pawnshop is rounder and fretboard flatter and seems wider.
I have jumbo frets on my '89 Heartfield EX. It's neck is also flatter and a bit wider but the neck isn't as chunky as the Pawnshop so it feels good. I have small hands BTW...

Individual necks on any of the Fender stuff have varied over time and individual instruments; my CP Jag HH (9.5" radius) has a baseball bat of a neck but is extremely comfortable, and my made-for-Japanese market '69RI Mustang has a very very thin neck (standard 7.25" radius) that's also comfortable and has a radically different feel than the Jaguar.
I'm guessing you don't like the neck thickness/heft combined with the radius (9.5") and the fret size (med jumbo according to Fender).
I have huge hands and am less sensitive to radius and size on the 24" scale stuff for some reason than I am on the 25.5", where I'm stupidly picky.

I really like the guitar, and I am considering getting a Wamoth Mustang/Jag neck for it in the smaller radius...that is if my guitar tech can't get it close enough to where it's comfortable. Since it's concept is that of a "pawnshop mutt guitar" I don't think it would be out of line. I'd keep the original neck of course. If I go that route, I think I would paint the Headstock CAR to match the body. That would be kinda cool!

Yea, mods on a "pawnshop special" should be par for the course.
My Mustang already came pre-modded no pawn shopping required so I'm set there.

Update on the Mustang special- I had it professionaly setup to my liking and played it 3 nights last week gigging. It and I are now "one"...LOL. The neck is still thicker than an original Mustang or my '82 MIA Bullet, but it is defintiely very playable and enjoyable too! It has a huge variety of sounds and in CAR, is super good looking! Got my new gigging axe now! No neck swap needed!
