They tried to deliver it yesterday and no one was home. Today, my son will be there and I guess tonight I'll get my hands on the tablet finally. To be honest, I'm already in the frame of mind that I have wasted some money.

not necessarily so....
if you are looking to do this one fucntion it may be quite capable. If you are looking for an Android Tablet to use as such- then not so
some of thses come in busted but a lot do not. So chances are you will get a slightly underpowered tablet that will work and then you can try the app
only problem is if it does not have the ponies to do his one function then you have spent 1/3 of the price of a Galaxy on something you cant use
but odds are it will be fine as long as it arrives intact

Well, it arrived in good shape and it works. The wifi and processor are slow. I did get the ethernet / USB adapter so I'm going to connect it by Cat 5 and see how that goes. The touch screen is not great but works. I can compare it side by side with my wife's Kindle Fire and there is no comparison. The only benefit is the larger screen. I didn't get a lot of time with it. It did not want to connect to the Google play apps so I haven't been able to load the app I want.
Did I mention it was slow! I'll have to spend a little time to get an app I can use for it. At the very least it has a very nice case that I can use with other 10" tablets after this one frustrates me enough to trash it. It came with a bunch of apps already loaded, most of them I will be deleting.

do have root access? If so you can load the Android Market. If not then you can maybe side load APKs via the USB.
Once you load the driver you should be able to see it on the PC as another external drive
go to the XDA forums and see whats there for the Evo Max
good luck I am thinking you will find something. Getting a working one of these is the gamble and so far so good

Well, I have had a little success getting some apps loaded. I haven't yet been able to get Lyric Pad but I have a similar app from Amazon, Guitar Tapp and that seems to work fairly well. Plus, it came with a decent document and file manager app on it and I've been able to load some lyrics that way. I spent most of the weekend working on cars so I still haven't been able to get any quality time with it. But progress has been made!

I'm setting up an old 10" digital picture frame for this purpose (I have a couple of these frames that were just sitting around doing nothing).
First off, if you want a tablet, buy a tablet! And if you buy a tablet, you can't go wrong with the iPad! I was originally thinking of buying "The New" iPad mostly for this (although it's a bit overkill). But I decided to I'd try this first, because there's really no cost, and I wouldn't worry about breaking or losing it. Now that that's out of the way, here's what I've done so far:
By default, the frame wants to be in landscape mode. I prefer portrait for this purpose, since all of our song charts are 2-page Word documents, which I paste some notation into (for signature parts only) from screen grabs I create in a free music composition program called "Anvil Studio".
I've converted a bunch of these Word docs to .jpg files with a free online utility (http://docupub.com/pdfconvert/). It even creates separate images for each page (with a 1 or a 2 appended)! But the images created need to be rotated 90 degrees to display in portrait mode. I found another little utility program that lets you rotate all the images in a folder at once ("batch processing")- I think it was this one (http://download.cnet.com/Batch-JPEG-Rotator/3000-12511_4-10577894.html).
Obviously, the frame isn't iOS or Android (some proprietary special purpose thing). There are hardware buttons on the frame (and a remote, which is not really necessary). There's no touch screen, so, I had to figure out the optimal way to navigate around. At least there is a mode that lets me scroll through the file names. But in this respect, it's certainly clunkier than any tablet (you can't just randomly access a song by touching an icon) but, hey... This would still be considered almost Star Wars-like technology a few years ago!
I mounted it to my music stand using screws through the holes in the back of the stand to connect to the holes you'd use to mount the frame to a wall. It's a fraction of the width of the music stand, so maybe I'll make a smaller mounting device for it (although it's nice to have the extra room for a hard copy of the set list right next to it).
I even printed our band logo and put it under the glass for a "customized" look. I guess I can even turn it around during breaks and let it play a slideshow with our URL, etc., &/or display a video.
Another band member now uses a Viewsonic Android tablet and likes it. Prior to that, he also used a small jpg viewer.
It's probably gonna be a lot better than my 3-ring binder, and it even makes its own light!
So, for all you cheapskates out there, this "poor man's iPad" may be a good option for you!

having back lit cheat sheets that clip to a mic stand is exactly what the doctor ordered
those large 3 ring binders with clip on book lights or 120v clip on lamps are just sooo distracting.
I usually only need them as a crutch so having it on a mic stand with a foot control is awesome. My Roland Fantom keyboard has a 4" LCD in it you can upload text to and I put set lists and chord progressions in there but having something like this enable you to carry all the music incase of requests.

Well I am in the process of adding songs now to the tablet. The app that I am using currently, Guitar Tapp, is not the greatest. It wants you to download tab and lyrics from the web. You can add your own files but I do not have the files formatted correctly. They show wing ding symols before and after the actual text, lyrics, that I want to display. And it is ponderous to remove all of it. I am hoping to find a different app that I can use for this.

you can scan them and use the pic viewer. The picture will not change and as long as its formatted to fill the screen you are good to go. Print in MS Word, scan, upload

Okay, I found the solution. When saving files from a Word document to a text file, it asks what coding you want to use and of course it defaults to Microsoft. I changed the coding to US ASCII and wala, no added symbols when opened by Guitar Tapp. I should have known this, but I was going too fast and trying to many different options all at once. So I am making progress adding my songs into the app and hoping to use it soon.
After dealing with a cheap tablet, my first, by the way, I would highly recommend going with something a little more funtional and reliable even though it may cost a few dollars more. I always take trying to be frugal too far. You'd think I would have learned my lesson by now.
I may end up buying an Ipad and using something like OnSong. The good part is all these songs are already saved as text files on a micro SD card so any future changes in equipment should be faster and seamless, I hope!

Update, I am returning the EvoMax tablet. It was a waste of time and money. I almost bought an IPad but went with an Acer A200 tablet. What a world of difference. I made more progress in one evening on the Acer than the whole time I spent trying to get the EvoMax tablet usable. I am surprised how different tablets are from PCs but at least I think I am becoming more familiar quickly.
I really like the Android operating system. I have loaded both apps I was looking at and it very easy to transfer files between the to apps. I have Guitar Tapp and Lyric Pad on the Acer and am not sure which I like better. I'll report back after I get everything in the tablet and have used it on the job.

Okay, I used my tablet at the gig on Sturday night and I think it was real easy to use and worked great. The app I used, Guitar Tapp, worked exactly as needed. The mount I used wasn't the greatest but I was able use my mini music stand that clamps to the mic stand.
Battery life on the tablet was great. I used the tablet before the gig and played a 2 hour set, so it was used for over 4 hours and I still had 67% battery after the show.
This is going to be a great replacement for the 3 ring binder. If your thinking about it, I would highly recommend it.

Gig #2 with the iPad and the iKlip last night.
Verdict: Most definitely a keeper.
Even the free app I'm using was worth the minor inconvenience of tweaking my .txt files so they would be indexed properly. I can view the setlist, select an individual song and scroll it as fast or as slow as I need to and I can adjust the text size however I need it. The $40 I spent on the iKlip was well worth it.

Couldn't agree more. In fact, I now own several of them so that I can keep one at each rehearsal spot and a spare at home.

That is my biggest problem at the moment. I love using the tablet for lyrics but the first mic stand mount I bought is not working so I am looking for another. I was able to use my miniature music stand that mounts to the mic stand but I would like to get the tablet just a little further from the mic stand.

I'm using Setlist Maker (free for iPad). I start with tabs/chords usually off the internet, and copy/paste into a word.doc on my pc, then edit to my needs. I save it in Dropbox, then on the iPad, I open Dropbox, open the word doc and import it into Setlist Maker. So far I have 150 songs done with another 53 currently in my pending final edits folder. Then I'm going to start going through my remaining printed lists and probably add another 50+ songs. The one thing I really like about SM, is that I can, from the song, tap once to trigger playing an mp3 of a song for instant reference. My bass player has an iPad too, and via Dropbox we can instantly share new songs.

Been using my iPad at my coffee house gigs, solo fingerstyle acoustic.
Bought an iPad2, iKlip, ForScore and an Airturn bluetooth page turner. Put the .pdf arrangements into ForScore and it works great!

I still haven't found another mount for my tablet but what I am currently using works okay. The biggest problem I have is dealing with outdoor gigs in sunlight. I think I may have to build a shroud to shade the tablet. I did create a temporary one this past weekend for an out door party using paper and tape.
The more I use it the more I like Guitar Tapp. It is not free but only a couple dollars so it's not a problem with the price for me.
I am considering getting a bluetooth page turner though.

Glad I found this thread! 2 days ago, I ordered a Coby Kyros MID8042-4, 8" tablet running Android 4.0, to display lyrics & setlists onstage. I'm anxiously awaiting its arrival in a week or so. The last gig I played was outdoors, and I had to use a spring-loaded clamp to keep the strong breeze from blowing the pages in my lyrics notebook around. That's when I knew I had to do something different.
I'll have to work out how I'm going to mount it to my keyboard stand, but it doesn't look like it will be difficult. I haven't found any Android apps for displaying lyrics, so I may convert the lyrics sheets for each set into a PDF file, one file per set.

JazzMastaJim, I've found a couple for android that work fairly well. Guitar Tapp and Lyric Pad, 2 similar apps but I have leaned toward Guitar Tapp. With Guitar Tapp you can set a scroll speed for lyrics/chords to match the tempo you play the songs, you have to do it manually, there is not an automatic sensor as far as I know.
With both apps you can save files as text files and transfer them via Dropbox or over a USB cable. The USB connection has worked better for me.
Outdoor gigs make it difficult to see the tablet. You'll have to find a way to shade the tablet to block any direct sun light. I went with a 10 inch tablet just for a few extra inches of viewing space.
I've been very happy with my Acer Iconia tablet. I hope yours works well for you.
