Do any of you use them? I've seen them in both analog and digital. Is one better than the other? Is one brand better than another? Is there a specific tension that you tune each head to insure they are properly in tune? Thanking you in advance for your help.

I don't really have any experience with them what I've taken away from the things I've read is that they come in handy for getting the tension close but in the end it all comes down to does is sound right to your ear..

Tuning a kit can be a preference, Jazz drummers like tight high pitched tuning and rock drummers like lower open sound. There is definitly a trick to it and knowing what you're hearing is a good part of it.. Some guys try to tune their kit in intervals I look for the sweet spot for the drum and usually that works great for me..

There are many vids on the internet about tuning drums Bob Gatzen is a fellow that is well respected in the video tuning category..

Yeah I've been trying to do some research on my own as well. From what I've found it,the Drum Dial is good for making sure you have the even tension all the way around each head and it's helpful when you want to do a thorough cleaning and you remove all the heads. The drum Dial helps you quickly get the heads re-installed and back to the same tension they were at before they were removed. But, like you said, the tuning is an individual thing.

Checked out some of the Bob Gatzen vids on tuning. Great stuff!

I broke down and ordered a digital Drum Dial just because my eyes ain't what they used to be and the digital one will be easy to read.
