According to 2011 sales, Wendy's has now become the 2nd largest hamburger chain in the US, passing Burger King for the first time. McDonalds remains #1 with about 4 times as much in sales.

The article I read also stated that while McDonalds is first in all restaurant chains in the US, that Subway and Starbucks have moved up to 2nd and 3rd ahead of Wendy's.

Pardon me while I take my fish oil and blood pressure medicine.

On a business trip recently I wasn't up for room service so I went across the street from the hotel to a McD and ordered a #1 meal. (Bic Mac, Fries, & Coke.)

Frickin disgusting. I probably hadn't eaten anything from McD's (except a rare sausage McMuffin without egg) for several years.

The last time I went to BK both me and my son got food poisining. I knew it was a mistake eating their food as soon as I walked in and was hit by the unsanitary aroma.

The best thing about McD's is the restrooms and decent road coffee.

My wife can't get over the square burgers at Wendy's. Don't go for that reason.

Burger King is now serving mini "onion" rings.. terrible.. one of the reasons I used to drop in.
They used to contain some onion.

We rarely go to fast food joints, even on the road.. coffee and restrooms usually.

What a distinction #2 providing "food" leading toward declining health in America.

McDonald's breakfast stuff is the only reason I go there anymore (on road trips only). I'm pretty sure I got a case of e-coli from one of their fine locations when I was out in Utah last fall. I've never had anything from Wendy's that I thought was remotely palatable, especially not the burgers.

Wendy's generally has better food systemwide than BK.

BKs are notoriously manager dependent.

The good ones are great -- but the bad ones are disgusting... both on the food and cleanliness fronts

It takes a tough manager to run a good BK.

(I like the chili at Wendy's.)

If I HAVE TO ... prefer BK.
Never had a decent experience/product outta Wendy's. Bad service. Cold burger/Fries. Stale bun. Brown lettuce etc...etc...

Used to be I preferred Arby's but they've (at least localy) been going down the Wendy's road. More than one tummy upset from the basic beef sammich.

I dont understand the allure of McD's. Besides an occasional breakfast bagel, it's the least desirable of all of the chains. I will eat Subway on the road more often than the rest, and Wendy's next.

I avoid all of them with only occasional forays into McD's for a chicken sandwich or breakfast when on the road. At Wendy's the chili or baked potato are the only things I can remember trying. For burgers, BK has the best of the three based on my experience.

I never order drinks at these places and always stick to the value menus.

I'd rather get a bean burrito at Taco Bell or Del Taco if I'm forced into fast food.

The Wendy's around here are good as are the Subways. Can't remember the last time I was in a BK, and McD's only once or twice in the last decade because they were the only thing open and close by at the time.

For a burger I'll go to BK for a Double Stacker. I like Wendy's for their Spicy Chicken Sandwich and their new fries. I go to Wendy's about once per week and BK a couple times per year. I try to save my "red meat allowance" for a steak or roast beef!

I'll always go Wendy's before McD or especially BK. Every BK I've been to in the last few years have been disgusting.

I love Wendy's, especially their value menu. I like McDonalds for their exacting consistency. I know exactly what I'll get and they also have the best fish sandwich out of every chain I've ever tried. I used to like BK, but they have just gotten so bad over the years. Restaurants are always run down and gloomy, produce always wilted, buns the size of Texas, cardboard fries, and they glop about a cup of mayo and ketchup on every burger. You can't even taste the flame broiledness that made me like them so much back in the 80's.

Never thought much of frying burgers on a griddle like Wendy and McD's does. Maybe that's why Five Guys always fails to wow me as well. Like jhawkr, I'll always do the Spicy Chicken at Wendy's and the fries with sea salt are pretty good (much better than their old version).

In college, I worked at BK and it was a different place back then. The managers did everything by the book. Both food quality and service were much better than what I've experienced in the past 15 years. I just no longer go to BK, even though they broil their burgers.
