My wifes cats must have gotten pretty bored when we were out of town, one of them scratched a 3x4 hole all the way to the baffle on my 74' Deluxe. Hate is a strong word, but her cats have wrecked more stuff of mine, now this! I hope replacing the grillcloth isn't to big of an ordeal, but of course there's nothing stoping them from going at it again. Except.....?

When we had cats, I kept all my amps facing the wall.

Amphead4-faceing the wall may be a good option, thanks, and it looks like the grillcloth is attached to a frame which is velcro'd to the front of the baffle board on this amp,so that's going to be a time saver for shure--no speaker/baffle removal, I like it,-- now, how to fix those cats! Iv'e heard that if you sprinkle pepper on something the offender gets it in their eyes when try scratching the item and they stay away. If I had my way, I'd go with the De-Cat, or De-Claw options, but this is NOT ever going to happen acording to the Baroness of the house,so I'm stuck with cat friendly, spouse friendly solutions.

I have three cats and many amps in the house. The solution is extremely simple and everyone can still live in harmony - amp covers. I even upgraded all the plastic Fender covers with DF2 covers and have never had an issue. Plus it keeps all that pesky dust off and out of your amp.

"De-cat the house." Good option, but my wife loves the pesky critters.

I would like to seal the cats in airtight bags. But I'm guessing amp covers would be best for domestic tranquility.

make a scratching post w/sisal rope, tease the cat to climb it a couple times w/a piece of yarn and it will leave everything else alone.

this usually works best *before* the cat has found something else to scratch [like your grill]

if you do use amp covers, plastic work better than cloth as they can still get their claws into fabric, but not plastic.

After our first cat destroyed our sofa, ever since then they have their front claws removed. As they are house cats self defense is not an issue and they still have fun and get satisfaction rubbing their paws on the grillcloth and doing chinups on a cardboard box.

Iv'e got 6 amps now, two have covers and theyr'e stored at home, one is now at work at my winter job, and one is at my friends, the other two are at home with no covers,- and the thing I don't like about covers is; I'm ...lazy, so when I feel like playing,- and I try play every single day , I just want to reach back and flip on the switch. My guitar is always pluged in setting next to it. I find that if I put my stuff away after I use it I don't feel like playing as much, I guess it's no big deal to pull a cover off and plug in a cord though. But I might just cut a piece of cardboard to protect the grill, or have a nice throw cloth to put over it, I would still like to take those cats out on the boat Salmon fishing with me though!

Take an old sheet, and just through it over the amps. Then take pepper and sprinle it generously over the sheet. After a while they won't get near it. They do NOT like pepper.

I've use large sized colored T-shirts for amp covers for years. You just have two dog-ears (sleeves) sticking out each end. And have a wide choice of designs. Dirty? Throw em in the wash. I dunno, I just got that idea one day. Not water proof though.

We have had one or two cats since my wife and I got together. The cats are not allowed in my music room. Door stays closed - problem solved. If my amps overflow that room, I make sure they get amp covers.

If you like black grill cloth, try pet screen.
I used it on a speaker cab and it's held up better than anything I have ever used.

I also rescreened the front screen door with it, at the same time.
Our young tomcat climbs it all the time with no harm.
He has given up trying to tear though it.
