One of my riding buddies was a Mess Sergeant in the Army. Keeping bugs and critters out of the food is an endless job in any restaurant.
When he was in chrge of a Mess Hall in Korea the base would flood in the rainy season and all the varmints would get into the buildings.
Someone saw a rat in his Mess Hall, and he was told by his Battalion Commander, in no uncertain terms, to wipe out every creature that didn't belong or suffer the consequences.
So he got snake shot and went after the rats in the dead of night. He told me him and some of his sergeants were up in the rafters wearing night vision goggles picking off rats when the MPs came and arrested them.
Fortunately, his commander was a stand up guy and got them off the hook.

Fair enough Dadical. I was worried you, like most people, had an irrational hatred of all things slithery. And more importantly, was concerned about any thread that focused on the use of a firearm to kill a snake when i fundamentally believe snakes should be relocated whenever possible
I completely understand a desire to keep venomous snakes away from family. My father solved the issue of snakes around us by teaching us at a very early age, to be respectful of them but not to be afraid. By the age of 5, I could identify
venomous from non-venomous. We even made temporary "pets" of the racers, garters, black or green snakes that lived
in our garden.
In reality, if all humans use just a little of the common sense we are capable of, far fewer snakes will die needlessly. I trust you will do the best you can to preserve the balance of nature if you can. Just be alert when hiking and try not to shoot yourself if you find you have no choice but to kill any snake.

Yep. My bad. It was very late for me and I was posting from my iPhone( like now). Late at night, auto correct and sleep deprivation don't mix well! Sorry Deacon! Hey radical-do you agree or do we need to fight this out over a beer some time! ?
:-)

I bought some for my wife, who does outdoor work in Brooks County, Texas a few weeks a year. LOTS of rattlesnakes. Big ones.
I haven't read all the posts, but the encasulation of the shot makes me think that the jump from cylinder to barrel should be OK.
