hi guys!

i just scored one of these on the bay and i was wondering if anyone had infos on these.

it looks like a regular mid-60´s Jensen C12Q (black frame, small rectangular silver/blue label). the cone is ribbed as you would expect, but the surrounding (the area where the "doping" would be) is ORANGE, and it appears to be made from a different kind of paper - hard to tell from the pics...

does anyone know what the "F" in C12QF stands for?
thanks a lot in advance!

cheers - C.

carsten;

i have a couple of jensen C10PF described as you describe your speaker (orange surround).

i/ve heard said that these speakers came in organ cabinets and sometimes in audio-visual equipment.

i found this on thegearnet forum:

The "F" designation means it has the flexaire cone and was used as a stereo woofer. "

most references also mention that the speaker should be reconed for guitar.

hi guys!

thanks a lot for your feedback!

"...most references also mention that the speaker should be reconed for guitar."

mh, that´s not exactly what I was hoping to hear ;-)

Mick, if you have a couple of 10"´s - do you use them in a guitar-amp? how do they sound?

cheers - C.

carsten;

i got my first speaker like these, in a BFWK princeton. The amp sound 'OK'. I however spend time and money attempting to find the speaker that makes an amp magical. So I changed the speaker a bunch and now using a amp-maniac, i just really like the '64 with a new weber.

the speakers are stereo woofers. imagine playing your guitar through your 60s stereo. yeah, it was cool to do that, but did it really sound that good?

if you need a pair of C10PF i know where you can get a great deal ;-).

hi mick!

thanks a lot for your info!
mh, still not quite what i wanted to hear, though ;-)

i guess i´ll wait + see how the speaker sounds when it gets here - and unsell/recone if it´s really so bad...

thanks again - C.

Hi guys!

I just wanted to give a quick report ...

I got the speaker and gave it a good listen - it was alright, but nothing to write home about. Good, even response, nice sound overall, but I didn´t feel like I really "need" it ;)

I had a guitar player visit me and he was looking for something like that - he played/heard the speaker and he liked it, so I sold it to him (at a very modest profit) - I hope he´ll enjoy it!

cheers + thanks again!

- C.
