Cool, let us know how you like it. I've been tempted by the blue AC15; I have a 660/12 BBR. That may be a fun & more economical approach.

I will. I was tempted by the blue AC15 as well, but just bought a really nice Marshall Silver Jubilee 2554. So I eased up. ;)

Interesting to hear how that sounds, it has the famous Top Boost circuit (albeit with a single-ended output stage). Should sound more like the classic Vox sound than the previous AC4s.

I'm trying to figure out what backwater they found to get bakelite from.

I had the ACTV, but it wasn't much of an amp really. Returned it. I'm hopeful this one is better with the top boost circuit and the master vol and eq that the TV didn't have.

Should be fun. Early reviews from others are it's a lot of amp for the money.

I played a blue AC15C1 in a Fla GC. Nice sounding amp, but the blue tolex made a real looker.

Good luck with the new amp

I have a AC4C1-BL as well, $300 is over priced for what it is.

I replaced the crapy stock speaker with a 10" 16 ohm greenback, and swapped the Chinese tubes with some sovteks.

The speaker swap was a huge improvement.

"I have a AC4C1-BL as well, $300 is over priced for what it is."

Talk about some cold water on my new buy man. haha. It's cool, though. Don't hold back.

Is it just the speaker and tubes that make you say it wasn't worth it? Or is there something else up with the amp?

I ask because 300 clams for an all tube amp is a pretty dang low price. The AC4TV 10'' that was the precursor to these had those some crappy tubes and speaker - yet didn't have the additional eq and top boost circuit.

Hence my question. I hope it's not a dog of an amp. If it is, I'll send it back ruthlessly. But at 300 bucks with a small cab, I'm not expecting it to compete with my DRRI or Marshall Silver Jubilee.

It is just my opinion that VOX could/should have used a more durable material for the cabinet, like real wood. then up the price to $400

The cab is made up with a thin MDF board type material and a lot of glue.

Other than the speaker and cab, the other components are pretty good.

Time is still here at work. Like a snake, sunnin' itself on the road. ;)

Can't wait to get home and try this lil amp out. It's waiting for me, according to UPS tracking.

Hey, so I got this little guy last night and played it for over an hour.

I think the tone is a significant improvement over the AC4TV and it's better than the other 5w tube amp I tried: the Fender Champion 600.

Why?

Better low end. Definitely. And the controls really do seem top boosty. If you max the treb, and turn down the bass, treb really maxes to the extreme. If you max the bass and turn down the treb, you are in bass city.

So it's more interactive that way, and the sweet spot is a bit sweeter. It takes a little more time to find, though. I like it a lot with the bass maxed and the treb just a smidgen past half way. Gain set to a quarter and master set about 3/4. (This is a wonderful clean tone with just a touch of hair when you dig in.)

If you have a nice little verb pedal, or delay, add that and it will bring a wide smile to your face. I'm using my Malekko Omicron Spring reverb with it, and it sounds great.

As for the quality of the build and components, well I'm afraid that the days of real wood and a nice Alnico speaker stock are past in an amp under 300 clams. None of the amps I've tried at this price point in recent years is built the way an old champ is, and this is no exception.

Do players deserve better? I think so, but fact is we are in the age where pressed wood and a less than stellar speaker in a 300 buck amp is the norm.

Back to what it does achieve. I really like it set virtually clean. But if you want to dirty it up and max the gain, it pushes nicely for a little amp. Harmonic and doesn't lose focus one bit.

It will do its job and give you enjoyable tone at low volumes. But if you crank it with the gain and master, it will get pretty dang loud. More than loud enough to piss off the neighbors in an apartment building. And it would be killer for slide like this.

Oh, and the amp is very nice looking. The bakelite handle is kinda fun in terms of looks, and it doesn't feel like it will fall apart in your hands. The amp is so lightweight, there's no way.

My plans for this amp are to keep it at my gal's place when I stay over. (I have my bigger amps at home and use them at lower volume there.)

It's worth the 300 clams. But I think if you asked your favorite music store to knock off 20 to 25 bucks, you will be very pleased with your investment.

I only paid $270 for my new Marshall Class 5 combo, $299.99 for the AC4CBL...I really like the lil VOX and will keep it, but it's no where near the quality of the Class 5.

Glad you got such a great deal on your Class 5, but they normally go for 400 bucks.

NoMonks,

Just an F.Y.I.

Despite the negatives I said, the AC4C1-BL is a very cool amp, I love mine...it especially loves my tele's.

I am sure you are enjoying yours as well.

It's a nice little amp. Thing is my gal seems to like coming to my place more than me going over there to hers. So my use for it at her place might not be that prudent.

I have a few more days on the return policy and am debating keeping it. I wonder what else I could nab for 300 clams. haha.
