1. Get through the 7/10 gig.
2. Learn how to sing while playing bass, original tunes of mine.

I'm working on being able to do everything on our set list with my 5er.
The weight and bigger neck are more work and I want to be in shape to do 4 hours gigs, in 100+
degree heat.
Ahh, but the babes at the lake make it much better.
Did a 6 hour practice, yesterday.

When I do practice:
1. New repertoire for gigs
2. Closed fingerings in the middle of the neck (roughly A on the E string to the octave on the G string) on string bass: scales, arpeggios, blues and rhythm changes lines in all keys. I work both with bow (for intonation) and fingers (for speed).
I never practice on electric bass any more. Between playing string bass and gigging, my e-bass chops are in good shape.

"Learn how to sing while playing bass"
You are absolutely right, that's something very difficult for me, even just doing back vocals and playing at the same time.
I have a lot of respect for someone like Geddy Lee from Rush who can play complex bass line while singing!

My band is a Rock/blues/country club band.
Lately we've been getting alot more private parties,so I'm focusing on learning more obscure cover tunes, things we don't usually think about playing like Modern English,Billy Idol,Jimmy eats world,Seether, ect.
Many people come up and make requests for stuff we've never heard of sometimes.
Don't wanna hijack this thread but...
Any FDP'ers got some tunes I should check out that would help. aero

Essentially a bass newbie here: finding the notes on the neck, getting used to the longer scale, building finger strength.
