I like the strat contours and feel but like the tele set up--anyone see or played a strat that had tele pickups and bridge?

Ever try one of the Deluxe Teles with body contours? Sounds like it would be up your alley.

I would love for Fender to produce an affordable Strat with a Tele ashtray bridge with 3 brass saddles and 7 way switching. Also an ash body.

Best of both Fender worlds.

To me it is not just about body contours although they are part of the strat magic.
The length of the upper bout and strap button positioning mean a strat actually sits in a different position against the body which works better with the contours.
It puts everything in a slightly different place.
Stratosphere and Fender got together and produced some really nice Stratele's recently BUT they weren't cheap - I'd love to own one.

Although I should point out that the neck pickup is a strat-sized "Chrome Dome" from Lace pickups.

Stratoswede, that is a real beauty of a guitar. Nice lines...very appealing to the eye.

If you can handle a bridge humbucker, there's the current Pawn Shop '51.

The 51 is close--- and the guitar that Stratoswede made is really nice--gave me the idea to just part build it from USACG stuff. But I currently have 4 bodies on the work bench now I am working on--maybe one of those I will do my frankenstein on. an old Ibanez body that is really light and resonant--

Why try a Strat set up like a Tele when you can do as I do and play a Fender Lead II? The Lead II's which have two hotter single coils pickups are available on Ebay and are superior guitars. To get one with a 1 5/8" nut instead of the early production 1 9/16" one must get a model manufactutred after 1980 (just check the serial #).

I want an ashtray tele bridge with a custom shop broadcaster pickup and 2 vintage spec Strat pickups for neck and middle. Then throw in a 5 way switch and an extra switch for neck/bridge and all 3 pups tone positions. Top that off with a swamp ash body, compound radius maple neck and fingerboard and locking tuners.

Nothing out there in the market that I can see. I would prefer to have Fender make that for me.

Only one problem.........no cash. Do I need it? No. But if I ever get the chance I will have it.

Thanks for your comments guys!

Telegib, I'm sure you can make yourself that guitar from various parts for alot cheaper than warmoth/usacg/fender custom shop.

Check ebay for nasville tele bodies, or normal bodies if you feel like routing for the pickups. Wiring harnesses and can be found online with the switching you suggested.

The pickups and the neck might be the only "big" expenses for your project.

Good luck!

I could possibly make my ultimate guitar by blending my favourite features of Strat and Tele..

for starters, two pups is enough for me, then the tele bridge pup (a good one anyway) is always my go to / old pair of slippers favourite,

the Strat body contours are very comfortable..

..and I lie a hardtail bridge, or at least a strat trem screwed down and into the body so tight it cant move.

Not a Strat but the closest for me would be the tele deluxe black dove, which I believe has a belly contour, and 2xP90's, my favourite pup combo (on a par with a good 'regular' tele set up anyway)

I did have a Strat with the above pups (2 x HB sized P90's)..wether or not the top noth neck and solid steel trem block contributed to its great tone I dont know.

Oh and it had a 3 way switch and just one vol control, no tones..I always remove the tone controls from strats and move the vol control down into on eof the vacant holes so its out of the way of my hand.

Also once tried switching the middle and neck pups around in a strat so I could get a neck+ bridge option..nice, but the resulting switching is initially confusing!
