Here's why shg:
This model, rosewood 62, sunburst, 100% vintage specs will be a dream come true. It HAS to be new. It HAS to have the smell of the new gear, the fender candies in the case, the vintage style tweed case etc. You know what it is, when you at last buy your first new car? Well it's the same for this strat. It has to be new! (But good too!)

I understand the words you are using but I'm obviously missing something because I just have no idea what you're talking about :)

If that's what you gotta have, that's what you gotta have. But if nothing else will satisfy you, if you just have to have a brand-new genuine Fender reissue 62 Strat smelling new from the factory in a genuine Fender case with whatever stuff comes in such a case, then the price is irrelevant. That's what it will cost to get you that thing that you gotta have. The price of some other thing is beside the point because that thing is not the thing that you gotta have.
The topic of this thread could just as easily be "What makes a vintage 62 reissue Strat more expensive than a milkshake?"

shg, I got the informations I wanted to know thanks to great FDPers here. To resume, this thread taught me that an american vintage strat is as good as an american standard but not necessarily better.
Its higher cost is not due to better components quality or better craftsmanship but because of production considerations. Ok that is clear now.
I thought that more attention was given to details and I thought too that the craftsmanship was better than on an American Standard. I was wrong. But it remains that it is the strat I wanted since a long time but never could afford, until now.
Believe me, this thread worth more than a milkshake to me !
Cheers!

You needn't have to justify your decision. We ALL buy what we like and has meaning to us. That's the bottom line for everyone. As long as it fits your value equation, it's valid.
Hope you find the one you really like. Just as an aside and an additional recommendation, you could also have a look at these guitars...

StratQuebec- cool :) Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a jerk. Things like "brand new" and "genuine case" and "accessories" and even "all in one piece" just kinda whizz over my head :)

A MIM Classic 50's or 60's model is a heck of a good guitar too. No nitro finish though.

I am convinced that I would get a much better strat if I chose an AVRI 62 over a MIM Classic 60. Isn't it?

Hmmm? Much better? I would definately try both. I really don't think that the American version is that much "the price" better than the MIM version. But if pride of ownership is a big thing then go for it because it would be a great guitar. Also the pups are considered better too although I really like the pups on my 50's Classic. If you can afford it and really want the AVRI model go for it.
I own a Daphne Blue MIM 50's Classic Strat. I love that guitar. Beautiful to look at and a great soft V shape neck.
For example I compared a 52 RI Tele with my MIM Baja Tele and preferred my Baja. So there is an example for you.

Ya I'll go for it. I realize it is just a visceral question. I'm only trying to convince myself to go for it.
When I was 16, in the 70's , a guy in the school band I was in - I was then playing a crappy Yamaha ES335 copy - one day, brought with him a strat at our saturday morning rehearsal. It was there, in its case. He told me: you can play the guitar that's in this case for a couple of days before the owner takes it back. He said with a smile: take a look! Holy sh(*... It was an early '60 : rosewood, 7.25 radius etc. You know, the real thing. Couldn't believe what I saw!
I'll remember that day untill the end of my life! Wow. I was 16 and had a real strat for a couple of days. Nothing else than playing this guitar mattered in my life during these few days! I was in heaven! We were doing a cover of Smoke on the water and I was playing it with a ... real strat. He he. The kid was living a dream.
And once the dream was over, I came back playing my cheap Yamaha for a long, long time. It took really long to able to afford a real good guitar. Life has not been financially good until I was 40. Now life is good and I do have other strats (AmSeries and classic vibe), a tele, an Ibanez but I need to have a 62. It's a visceral question, you know. So the AVRI 62 is a must have. It's that simple! In the end I will probably keep it in its case as a collection item. May seem stupid but that's probably what will happen. Just to keep the dream alive in me.
I don't know if my english is good enough but I tried to explain why an AVRI '62 is better than any other strat to me!

Sounds like you want that Strat so go for it. Just look at my profile. I own lots of guitars for the same reason. I had to have that certain model so I bought it. And I never regretted it.
And if you really want a certain model really bad nothing else will fill the ache.
Let us know how you enjoy that new Strat!

One mans opinion here, but I bought my 57 AVRI used for a song and the skinny maple neck is unbelievable!! Snappy and sweet..The sunburst reminds me of all the Strats I saw when i was a kid.. For me it's a history thing..Like I'm holding a guitar that I thought they would never make again, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!

It would make much more economic sense to produce only one model. It would drive costs and subsequently prices way, way down. But us finicky guitar players wouldn't like that a bit, would we!
NOPE!! LOL

"I really don't think that the American version is that much "the price" better than the MIM version."
I was pushing the concept of how manufacturing works and affects costs but there are actual material differences too. Nitro finish for example. Lot's of claims about what it does or doesn't do for tone and you can argue that all day long. But what you can't argue is that it ages in a way that poly finishes won't. So, in 55 years, that Strat you bought today is going to look just like the 1957 Strat you think is so cool right now. Great pains have been made to re-create a 1957 Strat just for you. That cost money for many of the reasons I have mentioned already. Is it worth the extra cost to me? Yes! It may or may not be worth it to you. If you are ok with your new Strat being "similar" to that 1957, a less expensive model will do. It will not look, (or play) like a real 57 Strat does today but if it's not important to you, it's ok! If you do however want that '57 experience, as closely as you can get it, the extra money is well spent.
