What year ..I have one that is MIJ ...that from the serial number appears to be a 1985-86 ?? Is this possible ???

I thought the MM was always Japanese-made. I have an '87 fretless jazz bass special that is Japanese made as well.

1998. However, the serial numbers were re-used often. My '96 JD Telecaster came up as '85 on the number, so it's probably a similar situation.

This happens alot with Japan serials. in 98 when the alphabet sequence started over for serials, people who bought used 98/99 built instruments think they have an 84-86 built one.
