I played a concert at our local church yesterday, as it was the vicar's last service before she left for another position and she wanted to go out with a bang. I've been using my Cornford Hurricane for usual band gigs and haven't used the DRRI in a live situation for a long time, but decided that it would suit the tones required for the songs she'd chosen to play (she's also a drummer). Drums, electric piano, guitar and choir.

Well, the sounds coming out of the amp (clean or dirty) were just lovely. Rory Strat > comp > Zendrive (when needed) > delay > DRRI (normal channel w/ Fritz Mod for reverb). I had encountered some of the "fizzyness" some people hear with this amp when driven, but not yesterday - sounded smooth, clear and tight.

One of the downfalls of being lucky enough to have mountains of gear (I'm guilty of this...) is that sometimes the tried and tested combinations get left by the wayside for whatever reason when the new toys come along.

Yesterday just proved that it's good to "come home" sometimes, isn't it? ;-)

Beyond the gear used, there's always a part that's out of control...for some reasons sometimes it will sound good to your ears, sometimes it won't !
Sometimes you will play great but totally sucks the day after...that's what so powerful with music and electric guitar ;-)

I'm definitely coming back to the DRRI lately - I used it at a gig on Monday evening and it sounded great again.

I've just recently swapped one of my other amps for a Gretsch 5120 (lovely guitar BTW), and the Zendrive is moving closer towards a fairly convincing Dumble-type tone when using the Gretsch through the DRRI. Minimal tweaking necessary from gig to gig - just turn up, plug in and play.

And the added bonus is that when your amp/tone's good, you can sit back and enjoy the playing that little bit more.

Hi,

From what I can recall, volume's set at unity, gain's around the 12 o' clock mark, tone at 12 o'clock and voice at around 1.30pm.

Amp settings are treble at about 5-6, bass at 4-5 usually.

Works for me!

I never cared for the DRRI, however its merely a matter of individual taste in tone.

Hi 5Strats,

I've always struggled with the vibrato channel, sounds good clean but overdrive sounds were always a bit fizzy to my ears. Since I've modded the normal channel it sounds much better, but I can understand that people seem to love them or hate them.

Did 5 gigs with my new DRRI.

1. Straight blues gig. Guitar-bass-drums-vocalist. Great cleans, used my OCD for drive. Reverb was right, trem for Magic Sam. Sounded great.

2. Soul/Funk/Rock gig. Guitar-bass-drums-keys-sax-female vocalist. Did a mix from Gloria Gaynor, Aretha, 4-non-blondes, Janis, Sublime, Grace Potter. Perfect. Had volume on 5 to be heard over everybody, still rich, tight and clean. Good sparkle for funk chops, good body when needed.

3-5. My regular band. Classic Rock/Country Rock/Rockabilly/Country. 2 outdoors, 1 indoors. Afterwards bass player came up to me to say how much he liked the sound of the amp. OCD and Carbon Copy Digital Delay.

Very happy with my purchase.

Gigged with mine last weekend. Had really been thinking of taking the M3 as too loud has been a problem at this venue, especially when the crowd is a little sparse and their Saturday nights are usually the slower nights. I practice with the M3 and love the tones, but not playing my DRRI live is just a shame. Anyway took it and fortunately we had a great crowd, best Sat they've had in over 3 months. Was actually asked to turn up just a hair. Used my Fat Boost/Tone Press for cleans, OCD and Green Rhino for overdrives. Had my ZenDrive on board but have just not found what I like in it so didn't use but for one song. All blues stuff. Tone heaven with both the ES-347 and Tele.
