let's see for the 'normal' citizen-
no atm
no refridgeration
no gasoline
no supply trucks
no food stores?
no phones
limited water supply (no pumps)
limited generators (except natural gas powered)
no Dr. Phil.
I would think things would get unpleasant
very fast.

Stock up on acoustic guitars, battery-powered amps and batteries NOW!
Or we can watch blank PC, TV and phone screens waiting for something to happen . . .

And folks are getting rid of their land lines, which usually function when the power is down. I can't get 48 hours out of a charge on my cell phone.
I'm not worried about running out of electricity. When things get bad enough they'll either start burning coal again or go back to nuclear, and there is still hydro and wind and solar, but those will start to get expensive.
I keep hoping that someone will come up with another energy source. My engineer friends tell me there is nothing left, but these are the same guys who told me that SS is where it's at and tubes would soon be gone forever.
We are, after all, still using INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES that are barely more efficient than the ones Henry Ford put in the Model A.
A few years back someone claimed to have achieved nuclear fusion on a table top sized device. That got squashed pretty quickly. I remember reading about a car that could run on water and the only emissions were Hydrogen and oxygen and (maybe) ozone. Might be time to drag that stuff out of the back room.

"I suggest "One Second After"
it will scare the bejeebers outta ya"
BB, I read that book 2 times. This could happen. When I was in the USAF, in the 70's, my missile crew discussed what would happen if the Russians detonated a couple of nukes in our upper atmosphere. That's pretty much what happens in "One Second After". Back then, it would hinder our communication and might have interrupted our power grid but today, would be much worse. It would take us back so far that we would have to pretty much start all over.

Not me! I still have a land line. Hooked to a wireless phone base station. That doesn't work if the power goes out.
Oh.

Food, sex, sleep.
Enough wits, firearms and cold hard valuables to ensure continuance of the above.
Everything else is mere logistics and completely relative.
If the freaking 'net and every last damn cell phone and TV station went down now and forever the world would be a better place. Read a freakin' book and/or write a letter, grab a guitar or look at the stars.....
