after installing Seymour Duncan P rails, it just didn't look right. It's a Epi LP quilt top that came with black open buckers on it. I thought I could improve it by installing the aforementioned P rails and it did just that and opened it up to more versatality.
With the P rails you could transform the tone with the flick of the mini switches. Three distinct tones or many combinaitons of mixed settings get's you quite a variety.
Depending on the settings, the P rails employ Humbucker, P90 and Single Coil tones. While they might not be everybodies cup of tea, IMO, they do as advertised.
However, after installation, more was needed to be done to 'clean up' the appearance. So, I've gone on a quest to transform it's austere look by changing the cosmetics.
When I'm done, I will post a picture of the results for a side by side (in a new thread) comparison and YOU can decide if it's appearance has been improved and something you could live with.
The transformation will come but for now...

That looks pretty fun. Need cream covers and you are done with it. Or even better if you can figure out a way to put a humbucker style chrome cover on there.
Still though, it looks good.

You can put humbucker covers on. Get yourself a set of plain-top nickel covers. No holes, and they'll fit.

While the Chrome Humbuckers always look good on a LP, I wanted to preserve the somewhat unique look of the P rails. However, chrome is obviously not out of the picture (no pun intended 8) ) the pick up rings will be chrome.
I understand the comments about the way it looks with the creme color but, creme is not a favorite of mine so...
I believe the black pickguard and switch ring complement the white and chrome of the pick ups and rings. the bridge ring is what is holding me up right now as I was sent the wrong one and now awaiting it's replacement due this Monday.
I have replaced the Volume/Tone knobs as well and when I receive and install the missing pick up ring, will reveal the body in it's entirety. 8)
But for know you'll just have settle for a...

After reading your description, I was thinking that the new scheme wouldn't work for me.
But seeing the preview shot, I've reconsidered. The chrome and black pieces look good. The completed makeover should look pretty sharp.

Actually the oddest looking thing in the original picture is the two mini-switches - could've accomplished the switching on the volume and tone controls with DPDT switches on 'em - oh well...

I have to agree that most would opt for the push/pull pots. However, the simplicity of the mini switches made it an easy choice for me and goes against the norm which is part of what I want to accomplish with this transformation. 8)
As for the chrome and black pieces, the scheme actually fits the entire guitar as the head stock is black. There is also a bit of gold that was added by replacing the original 'switch disc' that accents the gold lettering (Les Paul sig) on the head stock.
Edited to add: The other reason for the mini swithces is that they are 3 position switches to coincide with the 3 way pick ups. I don't think push/pull pots would work as well. I'm not even sure they have such switches in that arrangement.

So, I took what would be considered a low priced Epi (Less than 400 bucks) and transformed it into something argueably more appealing. At any rate, I'm happy with the outcome. What say you?

I like it. The Chrome and black really work well together. Really darkened up that finish too. Plus you are happy with it and that is what matters most.

Thanks for the kind responses and opinions!
Unless it's a restoration project, there are not too many guitars I would go to this length to change it's look. This guitar, to my mind, was screaming for change. Even after I first got it with it's black open buckers which had a sound to them I couldn't live with. Most people may have returned the guitar under that circumstance but, I didn't for that reason.
I had this guitar since '04 and this transition has bee a work in progress for a couple of years now. With this kind of change and obvious positve outcome (IMO), I think I'll keep it around for a while longer. After all, everybody needs at least one LP in their barn. 8)
And now, here it is in it's original condition...

I personally prefer the creme trim, myself.
That said, I like your results. You don't care for the creme, so black and chrome was the way to go and I think it works.
My only other comment would be...
Needs a Bigsby!

I appriciate all the comments and differences in opinion that have been raised. It shows diversity in taste. I think my choice put enfaces on the entire guitar as opposed to just the body.
As for a bigsby install on an LP, to me, LPs shouild never have one but, that's just me. 8)

I agree with Steve but, like Deacon says "it's not my fiddle."
I do like the look of the Duncan P Rails though, very unique.
