We're playing a show at a club in Tulsa in early August that has a 3 cover minimum policy. They are really serious about booking bands that play original music!
We only know about 5 cover songs anyway, but need them all to pad a 2-hour set.
I guess we better write some new stuff before August! (:oD

The minimum you can play is 3 covers? That would imply that they want to limit originals, no? My blood sugar's low right now, so walk me through this.

They prefer 100% original music, but will allow a minimum of 3 cover songs.
Our covers don't sound like the record, but I guess that doesn't matter.

I think you mean to say 3 cover MAXimum, yes?
I actually like that policy. Wish more clubs could make that work....

Wow. I guess the ASCAP/BMI/SESAC Gestapo have finally gotten their way with club owners.

That's great. Where I live, playing original music means sitting on a stool with a flatop on rare afternoon gigs and a lot of time at home.

I wish more clubs in my area allowed bands the opportunity to play mostly original tunes. Everything is "covers". Some worse than others.

Here in NE Ohio it seems "tribute" bands are the big thing.Easy to have a following without building a fan base. I like doing covers, but a trubute band doesnt appeal to me in the least.
