I need some feedback on these amps.
I came across a great deal on a Super Sonic 60 head & 2x12 cabinet and would like to get opinions on these amps before I pull the trigger on it.
What are the pro's & con's on them?
Any feedback will be appreciated, thanks!

I have a 60 watt combo which has been my main amp for a number of years now. I have done tube changes and a speaker change none of which would have had to be done it just INHO improved an already great amp. Pros, it is versatile and could handle many gigs without pedals although I tend to stay mostly in the bassman channel and use pedals for gain. Cons, it is loud but can be controlled. The effects channel can be jumpered and used somewhat like an attenuator or boost. The head with a 2 x 12 cab is a lot of amp. I did own the matching 2 x 12 cab but it was way too much for any place I played. Lots of clean head room but the first generation lacked a bit of bottom. This was changed with a speaker. I used a Scumback but I'm trying out a Weber Legend as soon as it arrives. Lots of varying opinions as with all things guitar but I've been playing nearly 50 years and own/owned lots of amps. The supersonic is right up with the best. I would add that it is not a metal amp but is excellen rock, country, blues etc. The gain channel is usable but benefited from a change to Mullard tubes. Just my 2 cents.

Does it have the typical Fender chime on the clean channel?
I have a friend who owns a shop and one came in from a trade, the price he offered me I'm sure is way below what a used one would normally go for.
It looks as if it's never been played out/like new and all the paperwork's with it.
It sounds like a versatile amp. I have a Mesa for any metal type stuff, although I don't generally play metal.
Thanks TD.

Obviously I like the clean channel as I play it mostly. It is intended to be voiced like a blackface bassman or a vibrolux. I'm not as enthusiastic about the vibrolux voicing but to me the bassman has a pleasant Fender clean. I have a DRRI and a twin and I prefer the clean of the Supersonic. As in all things guitar, go try it and judge for yourself. Good luck.

I like the Vibrolux clean, but obviously depends on what style you playing... chimes like a bell though and great for snappy and indie-style chords.
cons: A lot of valves and complex circuitry. Heavy (but solid)

Great workhorse amp. Had mine since 2008. Use Bassman channel mostly. Control "gain" via guitar volume knob. Use a Germanium booster for solos. Swapped out V30 speaker with 30watt celestion. I dont play past "3" so no worries bout "blowing" speaker. Lots o fun trying different 12A*7 tubes in preamp sections. Effects Loop is awesome for "volume" boost as well.

Thanks for the input guys!
I'm looking forward to trying out the amp. I have read about some issues with the amp "popping" when switching channels.
Has anyone had this problem, or has it been corrected since the first run?

No popping issues when switching channels as long as I mute the strings when doing this...strange, isn't it?!!
Great clean channel on the Bassman voicing, plus, it delivers that "Texas Blues" tone without using any pedal ! ;-)
You can watch little videos and ear the SS60 in action on the fb page of my band :

For the record my supersonic is a first generation and I've not encountered the popping when switching channels.

Glad to hear that.
After reading comments on several web sites the "popping" sound had been mentioned several times.
Was 2006 the first year for the Super Sonics?
Unfortunately I have to wait until next Monday before I can check out the amp in person. My friend's on vacation and won't be back in his shop til then.

The SuperSonic 60 is a PHENOMENAL amp!
I would suggest buying the combo as it comes eith a great built-in Reverb tank, while the head does not.
I plug mine into a 2 x 12 Open-Back cabinet with Vintage 30's in iot and it sounds BIG!
In this amp, there are two different clean channels and a dual cascading gain, or burn channel.
In my opinion, it's the 2nd-best Fender Amp of all time, right up there with the Blackface Super Reverb.
Play one and fiddle with it..........

+1. I love my combo. I did change some preamp tubes to Mullard and now have a Ted Weber Legacy speaker on board which in my opinion was a substantial upgrade. Covers a lot of bases and while I do use pedals I wouldn't hesitate to play a gig with just the amp and a tele or strat.

Picked up a combo Super Sonic 112 today. Seems like a great amp, although for its size it has some weight to it.
Thanks for the tips on the amp. I'm sure it's going to work out great.

I bought a 112 combo like suggested and after having some time to work with it, it's a great amp!
I can't understand the negative reviews I've read on some other forums, maybe they're younger players looking for a shredder amp.
It has a real nice drive sound to it with little fiddling around with the controls.
It's a keeper!
Any suggestions on settings when jumping the FX loop?

"Any suggestions on settings when jumping the FX loop?"
I have mine jumpered all the time with both loop volumes at minimum for home use. Makes for very useable levels. I warm up with the loop engaged on the foot pedal. If I don't, I get a pop when I switch the loop on.

this question is for tdhall. my super sonic 112 is really bright even with the treble down and the bass up. could you describe how the speaker changed affected the bottom/treble balance? also when i really dig in with the pick this amp just booms out a very high frequency note for lack of a better description. can you also comment weather the tube swaps or speaker change affected that?i really like this amp i just need it to be a little warmer and smoother. thanks a lot!

That absence of a good bottom is why I made the speaker change. Both the Scumback and the Weber Legacy brought the amp closer to those early black face tones. Much better bottom end. I usually run the treble side just under 12 o'clock and the bass at 1 or 2 o'clock and get what I want out of it. The stock vintage 30 is a great speaker but tonally does just what you describe which is desirable for some players not so much for me. The Weber by the by is $50 less than the scumback and to my ears sounds a bit better. The original scumback was made by Weber but they parted company and Weber introduced the Legacy which is rumored to be the scumback. I can tell you the frames are different and to my ears the tone is better. Unfortunately speakers are like pickups, you really don't know what you're getting until they're installed. I have four other amps and while the supersonic is the heaviest (a real consideration for us old guys with bad backs) I always play it. Gigs, rehearsals, jams. It just sounds too good. That's my opinion anyway. I've yet to get complaints about my tone and most of my friends covet this amp but it ain't going anywhere. Consider the speaker change as it may take you exactly where you want to be. I have to add that I never cared for the vibrolux channel until I installed the Weber Legacy. Hope this lengthy answer helps. As to the tube swap, I don't know what created the change but it all works. I have Mullards in V2 and V3 and Groove Tube 6L6GCGE power tubes. Along with the speaker change I have what I consider to be the best amp I've ever owned and I've been playing for 45 years so I've owned a ton.

Had I seen Greg Koch's demonstration video of the Supersonic before I made a decision several years ago, I would own one. I tried the original 1-12 combo out several times. Unfortunately I did not know of the Effects Loop attenuator capability, and judged the amp to be a scary beast that I'd never be able to use anywhere except Madison Square Garden.
But I LLLLOVE the Bassman channel with Tele and Strat, and LLLLOVE the Vibrolux channel with Les Paul or PRS.

thank you very much!this is exactly the info i was looking for. and just like you i find the vibrolux channel basically unusable as it is now. but look forward to using it for tonal variety once i get the speaker changed out. and like you,i'm really drawn to this amp and i think with these minor tweaks it really could the ultimate amp for me! Thanks again!

The Vibrolux voicing is very desappointing at bedroom level but once you crank the amp a bit, I've discovered it sounds pretty good, even with single coils ! Doesn't take well overdrive pedals, though...
