This baby does it all...i have been trying out a lot of tube amps lately and it seems there is little it can't do...i can get an SG sound, Les Paul sustain, strat bell tones, quack and funk, woody neck pickup tones, twangy telecaster tones...they are all there....with the no load tone controls, S-1 and stacked scn noiseless pickups...set at the right heights...you can get that classic clean strat chime...and when dirty it's one powerful monster...i toyed with idea of an h-s-s or making it into one...but after using different amps and focusing on the S-1 bridge/middle in series position...it's pretty damn close...and i like it's unique tone.

The no Load tone control is a real treat...having the option of a bridge tone pot and the vintage wide open tone, (there IS a difference!) is great...anyways some more eye candy (at least for me!)...i'm just excited cause i have had to use a cheap epi les paul last tour in the states and have just now been rehearsing again with my am dlx strat and appreciate it even more.

Sorry i know i'm beating that old horse again...just happy to be back with my Strat after 3 months on an Epi les paul!

What heights do you have yours set at. I have been adjusting mine since I got it and still can't get the 2-4 positions to sound like I want. Seems to be compressed too much. Have even been thinking of trading down to a new American Standard to get a more traditional sound.

I bought an american deluxe in 2004 and sold it this year. May have been the best playing strat I owned but I never found what I consider to be traditional strat tones. I went so far to change the SCN pups that came with it to Kinman Blues and a Callahan bridge. Closer but still not where I wanted to be. I sold it and now have an AVRI 57 strat and an AVRI 62 strat. Both meet my need for the vintage strat tones that I crave. The American Deluxe is still a great guitar but too modern for my taste. As an additional benefit, I prefer the 7.25 radius but then again I played a genuine 62 strat from 69 to 04 so it was much more familiar and friendly for me. That's just me.
