Hi!
Has anyone tried the Purple Lace Sensors?
Been thinking about putting two of them on a MIM 70s Classic Strats neck and bridge (no middle pup /w a 3-way switch)

I've used it as part of the "Rainbow Set"
Although the Resistance reading suggests a higher output pup I was disappointed with the Purple in the bridge.
Nice enough sound but not up to my older 6K Hot Gold and the output to my ear no higher.
I've kept my Hot Golds the Rainbow set went long ago.
IMO Dimarzio and Seymour Duncan have better options for what you are looking for these days. If you want to stick with Lace I'd look to a 12K Hot Gold but still feel there are better options for neck and bridge combos.

I liked the Purple myself. It's not as fat as the specs seem to indicate, and the tone is more open and transparent than that of the Burgundy Sensor. You can really work the tone with your pick.
I made a demo recording with a Purple Sensor installed at the bridge...

Alderandash, I have a set of Hot Golds (w/ the hot bridge) on a Japanese strat and they are awesome. Might definitely be a possible pick, also Seymour Duncans have crossed my mind and they are easier to get over here in Finland. However the low noise is always a plus
Smark, great demo and long time no see :)
Might most definitely consider them Purple's.
Been also thinking about saving up for a Ritchie Blackmore Strat :)

WOW, then WOW Again...........Way to "slay it", El Mark'O........
Yah, SMark talks about pickups, then he can pickup a piece of dogdo and still find that killer tone.
I hate you!!! ;-)
Just Remarkable!!!

Thanx.
Lace Sensors, in general, have always agreed with me. But this Purple is outstanding. One of the keys IMO is getting the proper balance from your amp's bass control. It's easy to add too much bass, even with an open-back cab.
My rig is still pretty much the same as it's always been... My amp is a modified 1982 Fender Concert (Dan Torres mods,) and my Strat is plugged straight-in with no pedals. My open-back cab is loaded with a single Weber alnico, paper-dome California 12" which is close-mic'd, and then the reverb/echo is added digitally at the board.
I typically don't make a big enough deal about this, but that Weber California is significant to my tone. I auditioned about a dozen speakers for this amp and the California was the clear winner to my ears. It's designed to be a clone of the vintage JBL D120, but I actually like it better than a D120. This is also why I don't record direct and do the "speaker cab emulation" or whatever it's called. Tried that a few times and was never happy with it. And I also use a premium set of tubes in my amp. I can be pretty anal about my tone I guess...
But now all that remains consistent and all the variations in tone come from the guitar, which is usually a Strat with various wood choices and pickup choices... many of which include Lace Sensors.

Smark,
Have you, by any chance, ever tried Hot Golds (or other Lace sensors) in a neck + bridge-combination (like the middle setting in Blackmore Signature Strat)? How do they go together?
I'm thinking about throwing in a 3-way switch on my Tokai-strat and putting in 6K Hot Golds in neck and bridge and leaving my 13K bridge as a dummy in the middle (grown tired of the 13K's bridge tone). Might also do all this with a MIM 70s Classic Strat when I get one, though don't know how they'll sound with an ash body. Might get those Lace Purple's or some hot Seymour Duncans for that one eventually.

Yes, one of my Strats with 6k Hot Golds has that option now, and it sounds sweet. In fact, it even sounds sweet with one 6k and one 13k Hot Gold. I've done it both ways and liked it each time.

on the subject of lace sensors Mark...have u tried any of the other new ones?...just curious...as i built a tele plus from parts.
initially i had a silver in the neck and a hot gold/red dually....but was looking for somthing different..
so i installed a burgundy in the neck and a light blue/red in the bridge....
if you didnt care for the burgundy in the bridge pos....it sounds beautiful in the neck...warm, chimey....like a mini humbucker..
the light blue gives u a hard tele bridge tone no bones about it..

I do like the Burgundy. As you say, it has a bit fatter signature. So I paired it up with a Silver in a Dually arrangement and mounted it in the bridge position (See pic below.) Experimenting with Lace Sensors is a lot of fun, isn't it?
The neck Dually is an Emerald paired with a 6k Hot Gold.

"Experimenting with Lace Sensors is a lot of fun, isn't it?"
yes indeed.. ive yet to experiment with the Purple or the Emerald yet....
If i get tired of the red in the dually of my tele i would try one of the purples...
I was able to score 2 of the rare chrome covered duallys..and put them in a parts tele....
I'm curious of they ever came in any other combinations than Blue/Gold

Those are both great looking Teles!
I have a custom set of Chrome Dome Duallys. They were wound to specs determined by Don Mare. They used the "new" (at the time) Hot Gold technology and included a bridge Dually with one 15k Sensor and one 9k Sensor, and a neck Dually with one 9k Sensor and one 6k Sensor. I'm building a new Strat for them right now. I'm almost done and it's going to look cool...

I had to take the time to look through my data, but I'm with you, the Blue/Gold is the only version I've seen like what you have there. I wouldn't be surprised if a Red/Silver exists, but if that particular pickup was designed just for a Tele, then maybe not...

Ive been combing thru Ebay for almost 9 years and never seen the Red/Silver and only 2 of the Blue/Gold.....
and luckily i got both of em...;-0
but the guys at Lace are great...ive spoken to them several times... it seems that the Chrome dually's were non production and somehow employees of the company got a hold of them and sold them on Ebay....
hope they didnt get into too much trouble....;-0
