I'm attending out of curiousity, I'm sorry to say I really don't know these bands at all ... I was more of a Zeppelin, Sabbath, Floyd fan in the 70s.
Great seats, good view. Tips on what I should look for in terms of performances, unique talents? Your favorite album?
Thanks.

Omg, Chicago and Doobies doing revival shows now like Dion, Fabian and Bobby Rydell ;)
Both great bands with a mountain of hits. Best songs are the early hits and long guitar solos. Not sure who plays guitars now but for Doobies look out for Tom Johnston and Pat Simmons (presumably Michael McDonald is no more singing with them) with great harmony and interchanging solos both on electric and acoustic. Chicago will probably be dominated by Robert Lamm's vocals and their horn section. The current bassist, Jason Scheff who replaced Pete Cetera, has become just as good with his high pitched vocals and inventive bass lines. Wish I can be there with you.

Chicago was tight the last time I saw them about 5 years ago. Only one original member but did a fantastic job!

I'm seeing them next week in K.C. Never a fan of either band but learned to appreciate Chicago. I don't know much about the Doobs except a few "hits".

+1 Jhawkr....but I had the distinct feeling I was paying big money for a very good Chicago tribute band.

This year Chicago has 4 original members and the Doobies have 3. Sorta like the Beach Boys who have 3.

I think that a few hits off a Doob will help with that show.

I believe John Cowan from the New Grass Revival is playing bass with the DBs these days. He's an amazing vocalist.

You won't be disappointed. Chicago generally tours with 3 or 4 original members. Their sax player takes regular breaks for health reasons but his sub kicks butt. Keith Howland plays guitar and does a fine job. Most of the "new" guys have been with the band for 15-20 years.
There is a fairly new Chicago/Doobies DVD out that will give you a good idea of what the show is like.

Saw the Doobies two years ago and amazed at how great they sounded. Talented group with multi-instrument abilities and spot on harmonies.
Chicago seems like a bonus on the same bill. The Cetera replacement maybe the best performer in the band these days.

I saw Chicago play last year and they were amazingly good. Fantastic brass sound that few bands can (or have been able to) achieve onstage. Their guitarist can flat-out shred, too.

I ran through the listed faves for both bands on GOMUSICNOW and was impressed how tight and relevant Chicago sounds. I'm thinking it's their performance I'm looking forward to.

My quick review:
Doobies first, then the concert. No, I mean, the DOOBIES OPENED!
Check this out, the Doobies had TWO drummers...who would’ve thought. Bigger beat, yo, like twice as big.
Tight sound, pretty guitars, pretty performers, pretty lights, pretty boring. The music seemed to be PA’ed through big horn festival speakers, kinda’ of like watching a podcast on an uber-iPad.
Is corporate rock a genre? The set could have been prepared by a focus group.
No cables, no amps, no pedals I could see; frankly I think it was a masterful backing track and the performers were going through the motions on stage. As it ended I was thinking it was 50/50 I just saw a live concert.
CHICAGO UP NEXT !
Check this out, Chicago has TWO full rig keyboard players. Bigger keyboard sound, yo, like twice as big.
Somewhat more real, human and obviously mad talent on that stage. But again, everything through the PA system, sort of like watching a concert broadcast via satellite. There were pedals on the floor, the guitarists and horns looked like they were playing...so it appeared to actually be a concert. But, again, a lot like watching tv. The fans seemed to like it, but we left half-way through the set, ...we had the munchies.
POST CONCERT
Settled into a pub with a band playing Allman Bros and ZZTop covers, a local 'southern rock band'. Fantastic, I be rocking it fer sure.
My somewhat cynical review: I paid a few hundred to watch what was essentially a DVD playing on my tv, from far across the room, corporate sound – pretty people, …an entirely unmemorable event. The local band in the pub was tearing it up, it was live music no cover, and real beer; and some of those girls dancing were simply…enchanting.
No contest.

Wow. I've never let munchies end a show.
Cool review though. And you're not alone on your assessment of the 'corporate rock' genre. True. Like word up, yo.

Too bad about the concert. At least you got some good music in the end.
