Anyone own one of these little gems? I'm seriously considering ordering one. If you haven't checked these out yet, click on the link to Allen Amplifications website and listen to the sound clips.

I don't have a Chihuahua, but I do have a couple of other Allen amps that I built from kits. Every component is top notch, and they sound great. My main practice amp is a Hot Fudge with Nuts and it's used pretty much every day.
If the size, power, and features of the Chihuahua fit the bill, then go for it. I doubt you'd be disappointed. I'd actually love to have one of each model but the budget doesn't quite allow for that.

I was impressed with the Telecaster samples through that amp. It seems nicely balanced and voiced.

Bluesbreak,
Get over to the Allen Amps Discussion Thread in this sub-forum....There's a wealth of information and RMosack has recently built one..... his discussions are towards the end of the thread.
If you're looking for a Class A circuit, that amp looks great. Otherwise, I would consider one of the other Allen amps and just run them with 6V6's to achieve lower power.

I love mine. It's just a shockingly useful and versatile amp when you consider how dimple it sort of is.
Without a doubt, it's Blackface. But traditionally, the only single-ended BF was the Champ. This thing covers Champ ground and so much more.
Instead of 5 or6 watts, it's a 10 watter with larger transformers. Almost gets into Princeton territory.
Instead of a simple Tone it gets Bass and Treble controls. Huge difference. And with the 6V6 and transformers the Bass knob matters.
Add to that BF reverb that no Champ ever had and you have a classic that never was.
I just wish I had waited a few months and built a newer one with Master Volume.

RMosack, thanks for your review. I've decided to go with a Chihuahua head and 1x12 cab. I talked to another Chihuahua owner who also owns an Allen Sweet Spot. He hooked the Chihuahua to his Sweet Spots 12" cabinet and said the Chihuahua sound bigger with improved bass response. He also said, knowing what he knows now, he would buy the Chihuahua over the Sweet Spot because it sounds so very close to the Sweet Spot and the Sweet Spot is already t loud for home use at "2".
