Tried a 2nd known good footswitch same results but I can select it from the pushbutton on the front panel when the footswitch is removed.
Is this a problem with the jack or does this drive a relay and the problem lies there?

Your problem is most likely a bad JFET, Q1,Q2 or both. J111 JFETS, very common swithching snafu in these amps.

I wish Fender would put more higher quality components in the HRD. They really are great sounding amps. In fact the HRD is my favorite of my tube amps for making any guitar sound good.

Fact is, this problem is common to most every production amp I can think of that uses relays to switch channels or boost or drive or what ever.

I finally got a copy of the correct schematic. I'll follow the circuit up to the FET's and see what's going on.
Not sure why I was thinking the jack..., must have been the trying to think late at night!
