In looking at the pic on the Fender website, the black version appears to have 60s pickup spacing. Am I deceiving myself, or does anyone else see this as well?

You’re not alone in your observation. I went through this exercise about two years ago during one of my periodic bouts with CIJ Jazz GAS. The black and sunburst photos indicate inconsistent pickup placement. I finally decided that Fender’s photo of the Black GL is inaccurate.

Here’s a different photo of the Black GL from FDP sponsor The Music Zoo. As this photo depicts the colored ball-ends of Fender’s D’Addario-manufactured 7250M strings, it would appear to be a more recent photo than the one on Fender’s website.

Garp, it appears that the photo you linked does have the 70s spacing. I too think that there is some sort of strange photo error taking place.
