I'm thinking about getting new resos for my toms. (They are currently still the thin clear heads that came on the kit.) I'm using Remo clear Pinstripes for the batter heads on all of my toms. I want to use black heads on the toms.

My SD currently has an Evans Level 360 head for the batter. It's the Genera HD Dry. (B14HDD) So, I'm guessing the snare side head should be an Evans head of some sort, or does that really matter?

BTW, just changed out both BD heads with Evans. The batter head is now an Evans EMAD2. The reso is an Evans EQ3 (BD22RB). This BD now rawks! Man what a difference!! These Evans heads, replaced the original heads that came on that drum when it was new. So, the old heads were a few years old.

As always, thank you in advance for any and all help!

I use Evans too... but most brands will get you there.

I run G2 Coated over G1 Clears for gigging... and have a set of G1 Coated for on top when I was doing some sessions.

I have EQ3s on my bass drums.

I'd put clear Ambassadors on with the clear pins.Black would work too.

I use coated Emperor for batter and the Ambies for resos.

Thanks guy, I really appreciate your thoughts!

I bought a 16" Evans Resonant Black (TT16RBG) to try on my floor tom. The sales guy told me that the Evans would have a shorter sustain than the Remo version. Since I know our sound guy doesn't like a lot of sustain, I decided to give it a try. Probably will not change it out for a while.

However, I will say that the Remo head was a lot prettier. Much deeper, richer, black color than the Evans. But, if the Evans sounds good, I'll stick (no pun intended) with 'em.
