I recently switched from Pro Mark, nylon tipped, 747's, to the black Travis Barker sig, Zildjan sticks. I'm loving the size and feel, but miss hearing nylon tips on the cymbals. Anyone know of a stick of similar size and weight as the Barker's, that can be purchased with nylon tips?

I recently ordered some Zildjan 5B's with the nylon tip. Found the specs on the Barkers as well as the 5B's. They appear to be very close. The biggest difference is that they are 3/8" shorter than the Barker's.

Got'em and they appear to be very close in size and weight to the Barker's. In fact, they"re so close, I can't tell any difference. Now the "3/8" shorter thing", that I notice, but not that much. These are the Zildjan 5BNB's.

F2... it is funny, we are all different. I don't like the bright sound of nylon on the cymbals... I like the woody tock sound of wood.

To each their own.

I hear ya Lazmo! I started using the plastic tips as soon as they came out, (I wanna say the late '60's.) They were louder than wood tipped and when you were playing rock music with an unmic'ed drum kit, you wanted as much "loud" as you could get! However, I also noticed, that the cymbals sounded "cleaner" or as you stated brighter, and I just flat dug it! I've been using them ever since. But, I'm glad, we have the options that we do today so we can each, play what we like. You nailed it, we are all different.

I play nylon tips for longer stick life. Wood tips seem to break down and fall apart on me long before the rest to the stick has lived a useful life. In the middle of a song I find myself rotating a wood tip stick to find a sweet spot as the tip goes away.
