I started playing in 1963 and I've owned a lot of Strats over the years.

Count amongst them three Pre CBS ('57, '61, '63), at least a half dozen Custom Shop models, and probably a dozen others of all sorts.

My fav of all, without a doubt, is my '93 Strat Plus w/Fralin Vintage Hot pups already installed. It's sunburst with a maple neck and I just love everything about it. Bought it used at a local store for around $750.

Like all Strats I've owned, it now has a 3-Way switch and the bottom Tone knob is wired to the Bridge pup. I usually roll that off to about "7.5" (like my guitar hero, Hank Marvin).

That's my story and I'm sticking' with it!

What's YOUR all-time fav Strat?

Had a number of them. Including from the mid-'60s and Custom Shop stuff. Best one I've got (or ever had) is my late '98 American Standard with Fralin Vintage Hots in it. And, yes...the lower tone control just runs the bridge pup. Easily the best playing and sounding Strat I've ever had or played. Super build quality on it as well.

Have 4 at the moment and for now at least my Eric Johnson RW is getting more playing time, it's simply superb.

Ironically around a year ago I only had 1 Strat which I didn't play much a 50th anni Dlx, then I bought a relatives Buddy Guy Sig (USA) went to USA on Hols and bought the EJ , and last week acquired a 92 Squire M series.

I am also looking at a deal on the new '56 strat in aged white..

The best Fender Stratocaster I've owned was a late 90's Am Std Inca Silver/Rosewood. The best Strat I've owned is a 50's 2 tone/maple I built. No other Strats need apply.

The worst I've owned was some 80's push button locking tuner pig, Elite I think. Rubbish.

My '06 Clapton. Fits like a glove, and we have a lot of history together.

But my new Jeff Beck model is giving the EC a run for its money.

My 50th Anniversary American Series Strat. Bought new in late 2004. It looks great, feels great, plays great, sounds great. It arrived perfectly set up.

It's very light, yet is has excellent sustain. Every note on every string rings out. The pups are outstanding, nice vintage sounding cleans but ready to rock when needed.

That said, my 2013 Amer Deluxe V Neck is getting most of the playing lately.

Well that's interesting. That's the exact guitar I described in my above post.

Define "best"?

My '69 Strat made me the most dough from gigging for 30+ years, then I sold it for a nice profit.

Currently my '08 American Std for sentimental reasons.

I also like my '05 American Strat with lollar blondes.

That would be my '93 sunburst maple neck American Standard. This also happens to be the first Strat I've ever owned. It does have Fender Hot Noiseless pickups installed.

Very much so. I bought it as a backup to Surf Green 62 RI and actually became the #1 at the time. I had Fralins in mine too, but pimped it with a gold reflective pickguard.

This is a hard one to answer. The non-keepers have been filtered out of my somewhat large collection and all remaining are awesome for a variety of reasons.

I’m with Viera regarding the 2004 50th Anniversary AmSers Strat in every respect except mine weighs a ton (which doesn’t bother me in the least). Simply an awesome guitar.

I do have a strong leaning towards two AmStd Strats I have, one a regular 2012 model and the other a 2013 FSR model with Lipstick Tube pickups. Both these guitars are perfect in every respect to me— perfect necks, fit like a glove, tone to die for. If I had to rescue guitars it would be the three described in this post.

Generally AmStd/AmSers Strats are my all time favourite interpretation of the Stratocaster regardless of year model (I also have 2005 and 2008 versions and would love a good example from the ‘90s).

I buy Strats because I like them all!

To filter that down to one it would probably be the 94 MIA 40th Anniversary in Midnight Blue.

I've owned a 1970 Strat, and 1971 and a 1974, and I've played several 50's and 60's era Strats. My Am Dlx Strat are far superior "for my tastes."

Tough to answer for me but at the moment my favorite of all my Strats is probably my 2008 all stock American Standard. Great tones and response from that guitar.

However I do love my MIM Deluxe Players Strats too. I prefer the response I get from Ash body guitars. My Sapphire Blue model is for some reason the most resonant of the two although both are great. The other is Crimson color. I would like to install a more solid bridge like the American Standards but I am afraid that it will affect the tone.

Price doesn't dictate which will play and sound the the greatest folks.

"Price doesn't dictate which will play and sound the greatest folks."

True. I have an unmodified 2008 MIM Standard. I try out Strats every time I'm in a music store, which is pretty often. Honestly, I've yet to find one I like better! The Jimmie Vaughan model could be a contender but I've encountered that model only once in the last five years!

It seems like the vintage strats did not get the vote. Just an observation.

I have a bunch of Strats. But the answer is simple. Everything about this one is perfect.

Even the story of how I came to own it. Even the serial number.

I owned a 70's hardtail Strat in 1981, and I sold it in 1982 to get what I have now; a 1982 AMV 62RI Strat. No need for any other electric since then.

My USA/Warmoth plays the best and sounds excellent but the overall tone of my old '57/8 can't be beat. My '66 is the only Strat I've owned that doesn't have "Stratitis" with a killer 6th string sound. I need to dig that one out of the closet.
