Hi looking at a VM Strat on ebay. The Cherry burst one. I have a CV Tele and whilst I love it the neck profile is a little skinny for me which I believe is symptomatic of the CV range. Can anyone with both a VM and a CV Strat guitar tell me how the neck's compare. Don't really want another thin neck.
Thanks

I cannot tell you on the neck on the Strats, as I have little interest in them these days and have one that's a fine guitar that I've had since '98 or so.

That said, there is no thin neck issue on my VM Jaguar, VM Mustang, or VM VI.

I am *very* sensitive to it and it's a non-issue on all of them.

Neck profile on the Mustang/Jaguar is identical to my '69RI MIJ Mustang as far as width/feel for all intents and purposes, and while thinner than my MIM CP Jaguar, they're all 100% playable.

My CP Jag's neck is also slightly smaller than a baseball bat and very un-Jag like (and atypical of the other ones).

If I wanted a Strat, I'd certainly give a VM a shot.

Tried both, had a CV for a while, IMO the CV seems better made.

To me the CV is a little better made than the VM and if you want more of the sonic flavor of vintage pickups the CVs rule.

The CV Strats have neck contours much like the Fender originals but a little thinner. The VMs neck profiles seem a little bigger. That caused me to avoid the CVs until I found one at a irresitable price.

I eneded up selling my Fender Strat some month ago because even with the slightly thinner neck the CV was a winner.

Yea, that's what matters, if you like the guitar and can handle the smaller neck.

For me it's a no fly (I get forearm cramp that I jokingly called importitis for years until the MIM stuff came out - little did I know that the Mexican plant didn't have a CNC machine for many years of its operation according to the Fender guys who used to post) if it's any smaller than the thinnest vintage necks I've played, and body shape makes a difference too for some reason (Teles do it to me hardcore).

I'd agree that the CVs are probably made to a little higher standard - a small price increase leads to a huge difference in QC on these.

My VMs aren't perfect, don't get me wrong- but neither were a lot of the vintage beaters in my price range I played when they were cheap by dint of not being "original" etc.

My favorite strat of all time -- both Fender and Squier brands -- is a Squier VM 70's in black with tinted maple neck.

Plays and sounds like a strat.

Just ordered a CV 50's in Sherwood Green -- it will be fun to compare them when the CV arrives.

MF honored its Black Friday pricing on a phone order.
