FDP Forum / Fender Custom Shop / bajo sexto story

United States

I bought a used custom shop bajo sexto it was a couple years into their starting production.
it's a bajo sexto, gold metal flake
with f-holes.I have never seen one like it

I was working in a music store,it came up in the showcase window.
it was bought by a customer of mine who had it for a year and traded it back, then I bought it.
I have a custom shop document were in case when sold to me.
I believe this to be a one of kind instrument.
I called fender custom shop and they said there was no match for this guitar on my certificate.

-It is definitely from custon shop.
-it has unique color and has f-holes
-I saw it come in new, to store, not a special order for customer.
I realize there is no connection to this site and fender.com
Question is how can I verifyit's one of a kind?
BTW at that time period, fender had made a special ordered Danny Gattons double neck bajo-telecaster in same gold metalflake.

I think the reason nobody has replied may have to do with your title. Players that are not into bajo sextos may not want to hear a story about one...but your thread isn't a story, it's a question. Something like this might have worked better:

Is this a real Custom Shop bajo sexto?

If the CS has no records of it (and they do keep pretty good records), it may be a forgery. One way to dig in a little more would be to contact someone that was working at the CS at the time your BS was built.

I still have my ´93 Bajo Sexto, beautiful light weight ash body in 2-tone sunburst. Love the guitar and its unique big tone but it is special, of course. You probably don´t need such a long scale Tele every day, so there is not much documentation available, especially from the early days of the Custom Shop....mine has the 2nd version CS logo and a serial number with "V" prefix, those "U.S. vintage series" numbers were also used by the CS until ca. 1995 on some instruments. Fred Stuart built the first ones as one-offs, the model later appeared in the catalogue until ca. 1997?

Your gold Bajo Sexto with f-holes seems to be one of those Masterbuilt´s? Which logo is on the back of the headstock?

I did some research and found that it was made in 92,made by stuart,1 of 5 thinlines that year.
logo on back is red "brand" syle, neck with custom shop written on it.
thanks to you both for responses.
