It’ll be a cold day in March when the FDP heats up the Nation’s Capital for the first time. Better be there Sunday, March 6, 2016!

We’ve reserved a funky storefront hall, the Electric Maid, in Takoma, DC, near the Maryland border, for 7 hours. Setup at 11 a.m. and the first song at noon. Music will flow until about 5 p.m., when out-of-towners can hit the road, while the rest of us pack up.

Out-of-towners: Get over here! If you don’t want to drive Sunday morning, come Saturday and hang with us locals, see the sights, hear some music, or check out Chuck Levin’s or the House of Musical Traditions, nearby. Feel free to ask me and other locals for recommendations.

More on the venue: The room is 850-900 square feet, plus bathroom. The stage has handled five- and six-member rock bands. The PA system can only be run by a Maid volunteer tech, who may or may not be available; or we can bring a PA. The official max capacity of the room is 49 but they've had up to 80 standing (crowded). Seating is for about 35-40.

Food: May be potluck, including member specialties, a cold-cut sandwich spread, a vat of DC Political Chili. Or we could do box lunches/pizza. Ideas? Alcohol is okay at the Maid, if "low key and in cups," so I'm thinking small kegs of craft beer, plus wine. (Recently a group of comedians used the space, and the alcohol got out of control!)

Organizers: A couple of locals are on board already. gmanNJ has volunteered to provide his songlist selection process that he does for Clamfest—which is fantastic! Ideas and advice are gratefully received; post here or send to the e-mail address in my FDP profile.

So, who’s coming? Who wants to help pull this together? Watch this space!

We've got this place!

excellent work Andrew! I know you have been putting this together for some time now

I will set up a google space for this like I do Clamfest. Suggestions in this thread or email to me. I will put them all on a list so we can get a list of love going

time frame looks like song selection in January, locked down in February so we can woodshed for an early March jam

Suggestion- Something Irish Rock ala Dropkicks, Floggin Mollies or U2 in honor of the Wearin of the Green

Hot Girls In Love and Everybody's Working For the Weekend. Loverboy? YEP! I'll play guitar 1. We'll need the lilting sounds of your synthesizer on 'em too :o)

Peegoo, glad you can be there!

You're on speed dial if we need your PA.

It would be cool to find a song or two by DC favorite sons/groups: Danny Gatton, Marvin Gaye, Jeff Baxter, Chuck Brown, Duke Ellington, Roy Buchanan (lived here). Most may be too obscure?

An outstanding female vocalist will be with us March 6: Kim Keating.

I've rehearsed with her in a band context, and she's a good musician with great pipes for soul, jazz, R&B, rock. Maybe not Janice Joplin, but Nora Jones, Adele, & Amy Winehouse are in her stylistic range. She also sings backup.

Some songs she does: Back to Black & Valerie (Amy W), Dreams (Fleetwood Mac), Fly Like an Eagle (Seal version), Gimme Some Lovin (SDG), Many the Miles & Vegas(S. Bareilles), Less is More (J. Stone), What I Am (Edie Brikell & NB), and What's Going On (Marvin Gaye).

I'll send the full list to gman, plus other tunes she suggests.

Okay gman, a few song ideas:

Theme For An Imaginary Western - Mountain (challenging but doable vocal, right mix of instruments, 2 great guitar solos.)

Let the Good Times Roll - B.B. King (died 2015; horn patches on the keys!)

I'm Free - Rolling Stones

Secret Agent Man - Johnny Rivers(songwriter Flip Sloan died 11/15/2015)

Andrew- you should put this jam on the FDP Jam calendar

Loves me some Secret Agent Man!~

I am going to set up the google docs soon. I have not gotten the list from Kim yet.

I am going to reach out to some FDPers I know that might come out. Still the holiday so I expect it to be quiet till after new years

Peegoo- any song suggestions from you?

Will do. The calendar form doesn't allow for 2016 dates, so I've e-mailed Chris/Rob asking for a fix. [Updated:] Done, and DONE!

I will follow up with Kim about songs.

I have a couple prior commitments that could intervene but might be able to get there by middle of the jam. Keep me in the loop and I will also keep checking back.

The Million Note March? (:oD

As a former VA/DC/MD area FDP member, it would be fun to attend this event. Hard to tell if that will be possible at this juncture, however.
