ok here is something older but complex- def not beginner trails. The transitions are pretty smooth

This is David Johansen doing an Animals medley and its in the style of the Animals

We Gotta Get Out of This Place / Don't Bring Me Down/ It's My Life.

2 guitars, bass, drums, keys and backing vocals.

one more I have done in the past but is killer live

I have this one charted out chord wise and with its 2.5 minute instrumental opening it always was a crowd pleaser

i got keys and vocals but need a brave soul to man the guitar(s). Bass line is pretty cool too...

Still would love to do that Doughboys version of Tears of a Clown. Stays somewhat true to the original but rocks it up a bit with the harp covering the hook and a slightly different, but easy run-up to the chorus.

Also some Stax, like Hold On I'm Coming with the horns, I have a great arrangement that we do with my band, much like the way Sam & Dave did it with Booker T and the MG's and the Stax Horns backing them, also maybe Soul Man.

Still dying to do Grits ain't Groceries, aka All Around the World.

Might be cool to try some Delbert too, B-Movie Boxcar,
or This one...
(confession, my band does this and it slays 'em we have horns, keys, harp, the works)

Here's The Doughboys Tears of a Clown for those who have no idea what I'm talking about.

My fellow "Clammers"

I really should read this blog before I send song suggestions to G-Man. I sent him ten song suggestions, and you guys just mentioned most of them. I see we are all on the same page and thinking the same way. That is a GOOD thing!!!

Being a @#$!@ Retired guy (Thank you Steve); this "Drum-Beater" will follow the pack in doing new songs, new covers of old songs, and doing our own versions of any song.

Spring Clamfest; here we come!!!!!

remember to contact your Clam-buddies in case they have not heard. I would like to kick this up a notch since we missed all of last year. PLUS we have the j!mi-Ski-Run-Theorem-of-Jamology (JSRTJ) to engage....

this will be fun

Going to Shamrock Fest this weekend for a good ol dose of Drop Kicks and the Floggins but we will have a date set by Monday. Since I got VIP tickets its free Guinness all day for me... so i will be back monday but not sure what kind of shape!

stay tuned....

What about Please Please Me and 1-2 more Beatles songs that show George Martin's diverse genius.

here is a peak behind the curtain. If we get multiple songs by the same artist I try to split them into two sets. Pre and post cake break. This allows early arrivers and late arrivers to get in on the fun.

and we have done a lot of beatle's songs in the past. To name a few:
Cant Buy Me Love, Here comes the Sun, 1 after 909, Got To Get You Into My Life, I feel Fine, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I Saw her Standing There, Maybe I'm Amazed, Ticket To Ride, Hard Day's Night, Help, Nowhere Man and more I know I missed....

so lets pick 4 beatles songs- 2 early set and 2 late set not counting the closer which looks to be Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End.

lets also limit each person to only one slot on one song so all can get in on them. So thats 8 guitar slots, 4 bass, 4 drum, 4 vocal and up to 4 keys slots

we can do the same for the stones tunes since they are also wildly popular. If the slots do not go during the rounds and are still there when we open it up then of course you can jump on any open slots that are left.

I will look at all the beatles and stones song votes on the list of love and that will decide which 4 of each get picked. This is a popularity contest and in this case majority does win

I think this sounds fair. Do you?

I think there are some crossed lines here. "New" needn't mean "hard." To me, "new" means not the same old songs we play at every Clamfest. I'd love to see the set list full of songs that we haven't done before. There are lots of songs we know that haven't made the list as well as lots of songs all of us have the talent to play but just haven't played yet.

My $0.02.

Evan- correct. There are 2 concepts here. NEW to Clamfest and the easy/mid level/hard songs
We will try to address both of these. As k9 said there are some beginner people who the easy AND common songs are best.
BUT new to Clamfest can be easy/mid level/hard

So you all can help by steering this ship with me :)
