I have VN's in 2 strats that I've been very happy with. I'm wondering how their tele cousins stack up.

I used my stock 250k pots in the strats. Can't imagine using the 500k & 1M pots supplied with the VN's there.

Anyone go with higher values in their tele application?

Just thinking out loud atm...

Love my Bill Lawrence L200TL and L200TN pups in my 2000 American Series Tele. Tele Twang for days.

I have a modern player Tele with VNs installed. I have a Tele VN in the neck position and Strat VNs in the middle and bridge. Very sweet sounding guitar even if it does mainly sound like a Strat. I'm a Strat person.

I have VNs in my not so original '71 Tele. It has been modded to Nashville style with a VN Strat middle PU. Wiring is stock Tele with a toggle to ad the middle PU.

I like the PUs. The are awesome plugged into an amp with a heavy front end. It likes tweeds best.

A Tele that quacks is a versatile guitar. As wired I do not have a middle PU only available.

Well Mick, I've got them now but you know that story. It will be taken care of though.

Other than the noise problem I think they sound great? Mine is semi hollow and I like that tone also.

(Not a tele application but a new tele).

Wow, a resurrection thread!
Yeah, good news on the new tele story too!

I never did get around to getting a set of Tele VN's but I have installed them into my 2 offset Fenders (Duo Sonic & Mustang) both 2016's and 2-pickup guitars.

I think they sound great and are my new favourite noiseless pickups.

I also have a strat that I fitted with a 3-way switch and just a bridge & neck pickup (VN's also) and it sounds fantastic.

It gets that great stratty neck tone and very tele-like middle position sound.
It's amazing what a difference *not* having a middle pickup makes in the tone.

Still contemplating a set of VN's for one of the teles though. This thread got me thinking again!

Mick, I've made almost all my Strat's do the neck-bridge thing because I like the tone for rhythm guitar and surf leads. The Gilmour toggle or a push/pull pot does the trick.

Yes, I've done the 7-way toggle as well.
The 2-pickup strat I did was semi-experimental.

I have no scientific proof, but I think the lack of that middle magnetic field makes a difference.

That said, the 7-way strats are also totally different body & neck timber combinations, so apples & oranges...

Look at my hair ...

VNs in the FSR Tele w/mid boost I just. picked up. I have installed them in a Strat before but never a Tele.

I am not a purist, but they sound VERY "Tele-ish" to me AND they're quiet ...

YMMV ...

I'm a purist... noiseless IMO they never sound as good as true single coils. they are nothing but a humbucker stacked.

Even in very harsh conditions a properly shielded guitar with true single coils only marginally hums... and for those times you're playing under a fluorescent Bar sign... a noise gate works fine.

IMO.. noiseless = a flat EQ
