Anybody know when Fender had Ashtray covers on the Strats? I'm not talking RI's but old Strats...

I read somewhere they used them for 20 years. What year did they fade them out? I don't think they made it to the 70's...

My '65 has its original ashtray cover so they were standard issue during the CBS transition.

Well, Leo didn't call them "ash trays." Players did.

They removed them from their Telecasters (they were first) and then Strats.

Rather than tossing them in the trash because they were useless, players discovered they made an excellent ashtray to keep from burning the tweed or Tolex atop the amp.
